Warning: Media hype on vaping may be hazardous to your health

The mainstream media have been exaggerating the effects of chemicals contained in vaping fluids, even though it’s widely accepted that vaping is 95% safer than smoking tobacco.

There are chemicals like diacetyl, acetyl propionyl and acetoin in vaping fluids that are known to cause serious conditions like popcorn lung and other ailments – but only when a person is exposed to them in high concentrations.

Cigarettes actually contain levels of these chemicals that are between 10 and 100 times higher than that of vaping fluids and not even tobacco cigarettes are known to cause issues like popcorn lung.

In fact, diacetyl is used in the foods we eat to flavour things like shortening and margarine so they taste buttery.

The levels of chemicals like diacetyl in vaping fluids are minimal and when looking at the comparative health risks, vaping simply can’t be compared to smoking tobacco.

The government is concerned that since vaping fluids are flavoured, it might attract younger users and so they’ve begun regulating and restricting it but this means less access to a harm reduction tool for tobacco smokers.

And, every time we hear the word “regulate”, a “tax” often comes too.

I’d say chalk this one up to media sensationalism and the government finding a way to get their hands on more of our money through false pretences.

3 Trump hating encounters

The most civilized, was with a older guy and we agreed not to discuss it, at all, ever.

One evolved the LGBTQ. And that guy walked away from me, when I said, "All feelings are valid, but 99% of the population is NOT going to change for less than 1% transgender or 10% gay"

The last was almost comical, when I replied to 32yo  woman. Who thought it was funny that Mrs Obama's dress designer, said she 'refuses to dress Mrs Trump'
I asked her, "why would Melina want to wear yellow and polka dots, and since when do women trend setters inherit designers from South of the border? Or First Ladies play, monkey see, monkey do?"

Then we, she stopped laughing and looked like a deer in the headlights, and we talked about her greenbean casserole.
