EASTON, Pa. – A supermarket is defending itself for refusing to a write out 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell's name on his birthday cake. Deborah Campbell, 25, of nearby Hunterdon County, N.J., said she phoned in her order last week to the Greenwich ShopRite. When she told the bakery department she wanted her son's name spelled out, she was told to talk to a supervisor, who denied the request.

Karen Meleta, a ShopRite spokeswoman, said the store denied similar requests from the Campbells the last two years, including a request for a swastika.

"We reserve the right not to print anything on the cake that we deem to be inappropriate," Meleta said. "We considered this inappropriate."

The Campbells ultimately got their cake decorated at a Wal-Mart in Pennsylvania, Deborah Campbell said Tuesday.

A Wal-Mart spokesman told The Associated Press on Wednesday that in light of the incident, the company would review its guidelines regarding cake decorations and other requests.

"It's clear that in serving this customer, some people were offended," spokesman Greg Rossiter said. "As a result, we're going to review our policies."

Heath Campbell said he named his son after Adolf Hitler because he liked the name and because "no one else in the world would have that name."

The Campbells' two other children are named JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell, who turns 2 in a few months, and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, who will be 1 in April.

Campbell said he was raised not to avoid people of other races but not to mix with them socially or romantically. But he said he would try to raise his children differently.

"Say he grows up and hangs out with black people. That's fine, I don't really care," he said. "That's his choice."

He said about 12 people attended the birthday party Sunday, including several children of mixed race.

You're not free to abuse or neglect your children.

They are still claiming that they weren't taken away due to the names of the children. But they also haven't given any other reason.

the pc police are very active. I agree with the "reserve the right to refuse service..." thing. Only, why isn't it allowed to cover all things? In this case, it is over the kids name for heck sakes. Some ppl just look for a reason to take offense(I work with one). As for the state taking the kids....no doubt in my mind it is over the names of the kids.

I think that was the reason too. But if thats the case, can the parents fight it? They weren't abusing nor neglecting the kids. I agree the names are stupid, but thats no reason to remove happy, healthy kids from the home.

Two things:

First, a supermarket should be able to refuse doing business with anyone for any reason.

Second, there is always a hill-billy who will hate you because of his own stupidity. Now what?

rant I did not realize that only hillbillies hated you because of their stupidity. I always thought that it was a trait of the whole human race. I live in a vry small rural town...and am viewed as stupid by many city folks. However, when the chips come down, who is gonna have the ability to survive? certainly not you who have to go to the store to get your food...lol...Let the freight system break down for a week and see who is the hugriest...lol...city dudeslaugh laugh

Yeah, I didn't mean to say "country people", although this is how the hill-billy term started. I meant it in the sence of someone with dogmatic moral system. I.e. someone who believes that naming a child Adolf Hitler is disgusting, because of what some other Adolf Hitler did. This may not be smart to name the child, particularly because of the people with dogmatic belief systems. But, while realizing that it may have been stupid on the part of the parents, one should remember that the given child has no responsibility for anyone with same or similar name.

The term means pretty much "stupid", "dogmatic" in my circle, but if it still carries the meaning of "rural" or "country" in yours, then I certainly did not mean that. I am a country guy myself,so...

If, in fact, the children were taken away because of their names...there is no case. If anything the parents would be able to sue the state for emotional trauma.

Anyone asserting the children were taken away because of their names is likely full of $hit.

The why's will not be made public because they are minor children.

Rest assured there are a boatload of attorneys who will represent the parents if the removal is without cause because if it was there is a payday from hell in it haha

What's funny is there's another thread on this board about a parent who's criminal negligence lead to the death of one of his children and the injury of another. Posters commented about this mans actions with all sorts of stuff.

Why wasn't something done??

So, in this case something was done but oh gosh that's bad too?

You are making some big assumptions here.
