...with that thing!

How do you establish & maintain eye contact when they seem to just want to look at somethin' else?

Poking them in the eye works, or shouting obscenities...

i hate making eye contact. i don't want people staring into my soul. besides, someone has to keep an eye on all of the clumsy people who may happen by and spill something on us while we're talking.

Show them the "something else", then have a conversation. I learned this very early in school. It's called "show and tell".

I'm with her. Stare so hard and so long and don't acknowledge what they say. Just go "Hmmmmmm, what?" as you continually stare at their packages.

I hate that they can not look me in the eyes. I finally had to hang a sign on my zipper that said...."I'm more than just that....my eyes are up there". I felt so used.....

Hummmmmm I don't for if they can't hold eye contact with me at least for a brief moment. Then I pretty much know we will not have enough to say to each other in order to hold a conversation.

I had a B/F who refused to make any eye contact whatsoever...it was maddening! But he was a Nam vet, so I figured he may have gone through something terrible...brokenheart

I just go start talking random blabber until they realize I'm still talking. If that doesn't work, a slap to their head works well. bigsmile

They taught me in management classes, that eye contact is the most important non-verbal channel for communication.

"The cheapest, most effective way to connect with people is to look them into the eye."Eyes are not only the "window to the soul", they also answer the critical questions when you are trying to connect:
Is he paying attention to what I'm saying?
Does this person find me attractive?
Does this person like me?

Is your eye contact aggressive, is it soft, is it inviting, do you love with your eyes? Eye contact is a very tricky art to master but vital to effective communication.

Eye contact provides social information to the person you are listening to and talking to. Too much eye contact and you could be seen as aggressive, too little eye contact and you can be seen as having no interest in the person speaking.

It is an often an overlooked skill to have and an under utilised skill when communicating with people. You can see masters of eye contact in great sales persons, politicians, and good public speakers.

If you can, I find taking one out and licking the nipple really works as an icebreaker.... no more elephant in the room....

I have a girlfriend who was born with a really bad crazy eye...when we first met, I had a tough time picking which eye to look at...finally she said "Just look between my eyebrows...it's easier that way"...! laugh

One of the most obvious signs of a lack of self-confidence is the inability to be able to look people in the eye for long periods when talking to them.
Eye contact reveals a lot about you including your honesty or hostility or your enthusiasm or disinterest. If you can't look people in the eye, you appear to be underconfident, people can think you are concealing something or that you are just not interested in them and what they are saying.

Another guy I went out with, spent the entire date conversing with my chest...I felt like sticking a fork in his eye...but I didn't want to ruin my salad...
