What about when someone has an "offensive" odor, or wore an "offensive" colour... It seems to me like the word "offensive" is the go-to word for anything that isn't socially acceptable or popular.  MirrorMirror get offended when people say he sling monkeypoo Yer so cuuute

hmmmmmm maybe the presentation???? good question...not sure I can explain it I think this is a viable answer.  Eloquence in speech and organization, verification of facts, and not putting your audience on the defensive is more palatable than someone who spews their opinions willy-nilly with ignorance, hate, and unfounded information. Eloquence....check. Organised speech and grammar....check. Verification of facts.....check. Not putting the audience on the defensive.....hmmmmm....so that's the problem....thanks Melody. I guess I am just naturally abrasive....(it's the accent, isn't it?)  lol I wasn't thinking of that....I was thinking more along the lines of what metal wing says. when you start something out like "hey biotch" that could be offensive I get called that often so I'm ok with it OOOps....please be offended.... I thought melody posted that! Please get offended at my lack of observation and my slight of acknowledging you as the poster....   Be even more offended....she did post the original quote! You were right -- I posted that second quote -- in reply to YellowRose. It offends me that you made this mistake!  BTW, the accent is never the problem. That could actually memorize your audience into giving you money! |

What's the difference between being offensive and holding an unpopular opinion? Depends on who you ask. Some people think any opinion other than their own is offensive. I personally hold a lot of unpopular opinions, and it has surprised me how offended some people can be! But that's a choice they make. I certainly don't try to push my beliefs on anyone else, and they're not going to be able to push theirs on me, no matter how many poorly-constructed and somewhat incomprehensible e-mails they send me. |

Being offensive is subjective, taking into account a specific persons singular feelings and can change from person to person. Being offensive is doing or saying something that makes another person feel imposed upon in some way or disrespected. An unpopular opinion is objective, taking into account a groups agreement with you.
To give an opinion from this forum,,,, Not all offensive opinions are unpopular,,like the one that islam is an enemy and not all unpopular opinions are offensive either,,like the opinion that Barack Obama is a wonderful man. |
