I'm going of another thread.

If you had the choice more offten then normal to be in a relationship, and distence, moving etc would work out for you. What would you prefer.

(1) Being in a relationship with an American.

(2) Being in a relationship other then American.

Explaine why or why not.

I did this thread to see how we look at ourselves in todays world.

Being in a relationship with an American. I had a bad experience with a foreigner-Greek-who ended up being a conartist and I lost everything. I know it is a single situation, but certain nationalities will always defend their countries and people over you.

This is a "frame of reference" issue for me. I've had very little experience with non-Americans.

Having said that, and mindful of the fact that my entanglements with my fellow Americans have been grossly disappointing, I think, on balance, I'd prefer to try the non-American. It might not turn out any better, but at least there's not this horrible track record hanging over me.

I realize that I'm overgeneralizing here, but, in this hypothetical case (which, let's face it, will never happen in real life because I just don't have access to anyone other than Americans), all else being equal, I would prefer to try the foreigner. I just see that as a more viable option, a better possibility of working out, than hoping to find an American who fits into my preferences.

I relate to what said. I haven't had much experience with non Americans. But, what I have seen is some friends start a relationship with someone non American. The relationship has lasted for a couple years before they moved them to the stats. The relationship seems to be going well.

From what I have seen from socity and how people leave in America. It's a patern I don't like and is being past down to the new generation. The sad thing is, it's a patern that a lot of people feel comfortable with and are unwilling to make a change. It's there choice and nothing wrong with it for them. But for me, I wont fallow that patern, it's not me.

Interesting question since there's so many stories on TV of non-American's skipping off to other countries with the kids.

Since I don't want kids, I'd be open to both, though not Middle Eastern or Asian, per my own preferences.

Never dated a non-American before but women with European accents are a turn on for me. French, English, even Eastern European. Maybe I should take that trip to Europe I've always dreamed of bigsmile

My own experience in dating a foreigner would probably squelch any incentive to do so again.

While visiting Ireland, I engaged in a relationship which met a painful end for us both. After 6 months of bliss, I returned home with expectations that he would soon come to the US for a long visit, as we’d planned. We realized that we would be restricted to these visits until circumstances changed in the favor of one of us moving. We were never able to make his visit happen, let alone a move on either’s behalf.

Though others may have very different outcomes with dating abroad, mine has cautioned me somewhat. Besides, with enough willing participants in the States, there is no need for me to chance toying with my own heart.

I'm a dual citizen. I had an Indian girlfriend for 5 years, born in England, grown up in USA. Also dated 2 Hungarian girls, both living in the USA for a couple of years.

My first g/f in USA was an American, which was great (lasted 4yrs), but soon she went to college, we've grown apart and broke up. This was back in 1998.

It's not the nationality, but somehow even those non-Americans who come here and being here for a few years, they change. If you got an immigrant who has been in USA for about 2 years or more, they aren't a really good example of what it's like to date non-Americans.
Basically if you date someone who only came here a few years ago, there isn't a huge difference versus Americans.
They actually become even more materialistic, especially who came from poorer countries, because suddenly they want all the stuff they couldn't afford before and still have to learn the lesson, that those things won't make their life better.

If you want to experience what it's like dating a non-American, you have to find them in their native-country, but you still have the danger that she might not love you for who you are, but what you got and hoping to bring them to USA.

It's true, the way we live does change a person that has not lived this type of life. Not all the time nor to the extreem, but it opens up a whole new world for someone that has never lived like we do. The word (More) comes to mind, and it dont matter if it's men or wemen. We live a life that evalves money all the time, and it runs are life.

Well Shadow, they hung me out to dry on the thread I posted about ethnicity and future relationships based on past ones with certain ethnicities. I don't care what they say, I'm finished with Oz (Australia). As far as I'm concerned, the land down under can stay down there. Never again. I'm sticking closer to my home base this time.

I will only date someone circumcised so they most likely will be from this country. It's that simple for me. Oh and if anyone asks me why, I will offend a bunch of people since the sensitive meeter is way up on this site and people have sticks up their azzes, so save your comments.

well i dont see this stating to move to another country.. this country is mixed with so many.. do you mean not born american? or someone that lives in a differnt country...

for me i do not know a differece for i have never traveled outside of this country....
as far as the person being of a different origin .. that does not make a difference to me.... so i would say i dont have a preference its the heart that matters to me...

What do you mean by "American"? Someone IN America or someone FROM America? I would love to move out of the country, but I don't want to learn a new language. As long as they speak english whereever they are, I would be open to moving there.
