Sounds like he made some bad choices and hes getting it full circle. Its good that hes not going to go around killing again.

Apparently Utah performed it first execution by firing squad in 14 years. I think it's great a state still has the balls to use a firing squad. It's a lot cheaper than lethal injection.

What do you all think about this.

some places they just take the person found guilty and shoot them with a revolver. saves time, money, energy and bullets. no fifty years of rotting in prison. which is more humane?

The article was put out by AP. I post the link if knew how.

Execution is only more expensive because of the all the lawyers fighting to save the inmates on death row. It would be cheaper to abolish the death penalty and instate lifetime solitary confinement. But that's probably considered cruel and unusual.

Different opinion: Use the death penalty sooner, limit the time for appeals. Used to be sentenace was carried out within 30 days. Lawyers changed that, wonder why.

I think the way cases are 'PROVEN' is enough to make the death penalty sadly embarassing. Most cases are proven with circumstantial evidence,, meaning to say lawyers who are trained well can TIE things together well enough to give the appearance of guilt. This type of standard leaves open the chance for ALOT of people who cant afford good defense attorneys to be found 'guilty' of some 'heinous' act even if they didnt necessarily commit it. Id rather keep those accused of being dangerous kept away from the public, than risk assassinating those who may have done nothing more than not be able to afford a proper defense.

And as O J 'proved' the first time around, we get the 'justice' we can afford. I don't have a problem with this application of justice. Cheaper than keeping him fed, clothed, and medical-ed up for 30-plus years or so ...

The state of Utah gives firing squad as an option for the "criminal."
The reason for this is for their redemption...this is a very Mormon state and the church believes the 'eye for an eye' mentality.
When one sheds the blood of another then their blood must be shed. Those who die by firing squad choose that manner of death, because of their belief system. No blood is shed in the chair or by injection.

Why is this method barbaric? Lethal injection may appear quick and easy but do you have any idea what's happening inside the body? They are not simply falling asleep as many seem to think. Perhaps some feel those put to death should suffer more than just a bullet to the head.

Maybe we should start having public torture in the town square..how many would come out to see that.

Murder of another human is barbaric and disgusting whether it's carried out by an individual or the state!

Well, I think if you take a life intentionally; your life should be forfeited. Why are these murders allowed to stay alive, eat steak, watch pornos, get free University Educations, and make profits on writing books or tv appearances? Do you know that prisoners eat better food than the military and I know this for a fact. What about the life of the person they murdered? They took away that person's right to live out their lives yet they can live out their lives because of our bleeding heart society. I am not religious but do believe an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth.

I really don't care why Utah still has the firing squad option, I just like that they still have the balls to keep it, while all other states want to cause as little pain as possible to people who deserve no sympathy whatsoever.

With towns getting into financial trouble, they should sell tickets to public executions by firing squad and beheading. And for a high nominal fee, you could fire a gun or drop the blade.

It is an option in Delaware, too........just no one has opted for it. Dang.......someone actually chose to die by firing squad

That and it's very hard to give someone their life back if the conviction gets over turned years later. Which has happened.....oops, sorry they are dead, but we cannot bring them back now!!!

It's not about having 'balls' as I just explained to you. Lethal injection and the chair cause more pain so your contradicting yourself...if you want them to suffer more, longer.. than the bullet to the head isn't matching up, it's pretty damn quick!

They started lethal injection because they thought it was less painful and more humane. Because the first injection is supposed to knock the person out. Apparently that's not the case. We've been wrong about other medical stuff before, why not lethal injection?

1. Sodium thiopental: ultra-short action barbiturate, an
anaesthetic agent capable of rendering the prisoner
unconscious in a few seconds.
2. Pancuronium: non-depolarizing muscle relaxant, causes
complete, fast and sustained paralysis of the skeletal
striated muscles, including the diaphragm and the rest of the
respiratory muscles; this would eventually cause death by
asphyxiation.
3. Potassium chloride: stops the heart, and thus causes death by
cardiac arrest.

It appears peaceful because their paralyzed. If not the body would be flopping all around and it would be quite gruesome to watch.
Well, except to those who would enjoy such a thing..then I suppose it would be entertaining..
