What you fail to understand is that he wasn't immediately arrested by the police. He had plenty of time to destroy evidence of any new crimes he committed. In other words, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

i understand that. i understand he may have gotten away with many other things. i understand woulda, coulda, shoulda. i also understand the facts so far is that he failed to report. i also understand we may never get to the bottom of any of this if he is allowed to plea bargain his way out. if he does, we have a better chance of finding jimmy hoffa

Ese,

Did you happen to read my post on page 23, about how difficult it can be to stand up for 'fairness' in a conversation about a person who has done such horrible things to justify such hatred?

Spider wrote:

On what grounds should we give him the benefit of the doubt?

I think this depends on what we mean by the benefit of the doubt.

As you pointed out, some things are definitely known in this case. Some things are not, they are inferred; they are suggested by the evidence.

For those, we don't have to choose between 'is true' and 'is not true'. We can say 'we don't really know for certain about these secondary accusations, but given the actual facts, we shouldn't take any chances."

To some people 'benefit of the doubt' seems to mean 'pretending that likely accusations are definitely not true, until proven otherwise'.

This is not how I would use it in this conversation, and I don't think Ese would either.

I'm interested in the kind of 'benefit of the doubt' which requires that we acknowledge the limits of what we know with high confidence, and recognize when we are drawing likely-but-possibly-wrong inferences.

IMO, this kind of 'benefit of the doubt' is always the right thing to do, no matter how horrible the known facts are.

You are simply elaborating on my point, emphasizing my point for me. The only thing I see as strange here is the fact that you seem to think you just explained something to me, this makes me wonder what you might have read into my words.

Some of the hate-filled posts in this thread are also fact-based, but some of the other hate filled posts in this thread are irrational and distorted.

The latter category always pisses me off, no matter how worthy of their hatred the target may otherwise be. This is why I am so grateful for our current, modern legal system. An angry mob is not capable of executing justice - irrationality reigns supreme.

But since I know from experience that many people (not you, Spider) will confuse a critique of their irrational or non-evidenced portions of their accusations with an attack on their righteous hostility - and worse, will confuse such a critique with a defense of the guilty, I'm not especially motivated to debate those points.

If it makes any difference, I don't, as I write this, recall you saying any of the ignorant hate-fill things that offended my sense of truth. Your judgementalism appears to me to be fact based.

i did read your post. it seems "fairness" gets thrown out of the window when emotions are involved, and the scales of justice tip on a bias

my main concern is the plea bargain. lawyers can be slicker than oil on ice and can make deals that serve no justice. i suspect the original seven year sentence involved some kind of deal with the prosecutor or some other legal authority. he may have gotten away with an untold number of crimes, but the only one that can be used against him is the failure to report (so far). a warrant to search his home, car, place of business etc. may not be of any use now. the maximum sentence for failure to report or maybe a violation of his terms of release could be all that is in store

Just a heads up for those looking for more profiles of Keith Willis. He also used the name Lowell Panadecker- a character from one of his books. I know it was his messenger ID for awhile and I have found profiles for mylife.com and reunion.com. I can't see his profiles since I am not a member of either.

Then who is this Melissa Panadecker he mentions from Mingle in his books? A real person whom he used their last name for mihself or another of his alias? Anyone know? He mentions Melissa in this post off his website.

Melisa may be the real name and he may have used his alias last name to create the character. That's what it sounds like happened. Not sure though.

Unlike most guys, I have no interest in football or working on cars or hunting and fishing or going to bars or boobs.

All of my gay male friends have loved boobs. It's inherit to being a man, it's a genetic indicator that a woman is a desirable mate. In other words, this is what you call a red flag.

On Mingle2, I'm sometimes referred to as "intimidating" and "complicated," but I don't think that's accurate at all. I just have a solid idea of what it is I want in life -- and what it is I DON'T want. Some people find that difficult to cope with, I guess, but I think it all boils down to an individual's personal preferences, and why should we abandon them just because some stranger doesn't agree with them?

wow, this is all very damaging to lex. i wonder how keith feels about it. i'm sorry for that (sort of). actually i could give a flying puck over a rolling donut about anything lex/keith posted.with all due respect spider it's about what charges can a court make stick to this slippery eel. that matters, because whatever charges turn to convictions will determine how long a punishment he will receive

From what little I've read, violations of registration are punished more harshly than the original crime.

I know this Melissa.. I spoke to her today.. Her last name is NOT Panadecker. She is fine. Feeling a bit betrayed, and has some extreme mixed emotins at the moment, but is just fine.

I'll bet.
This is the type of thing that screws it up for men.

We are not all perverts.

Thankfully, most of us are real, up front with who we are and what we are about.

I bet! I was fortunate and met my husband here. I know that there are amazing men, and some are online. She knows this too.. any idea of romance was over for them long ago, but they were still "friends." well, her and Lex were.
She said that Lex was one of the best friends she has had, but Keith is a disgusting slimebag. it's like they are 2 different people and Keith killed Lex..
I can kinda see her thinking, that is kind of what it feels like for lots of us. it's hard to think of Lex as this monster. especially after some of us have "Known" him for so many years.

This must be what it feels like when peoples neighbors or friends turn out to be... well this.. strange mix of emotions.
