Topic: Two complete separate reactions.

I am wondering why the strong difference in reactions from the following two statements when I feel they are the same thing.

1.
I say to someone "I prefer brunettes, and there are very few blonde girls I find attractive"

The reaction I get is normally "Well I like blondes, but to each their own"

and the second one is

2. I say to someone "I prefer white girls, and that there are very few black girls I find attractive"

The reaction I get to the second one is that I'm a racist, white, skinhead, cracker, redneck with no class

They both are personal physical preferences why the completely different reactions?

They are both stating judging someone on the basis of a physical attribute, is it really necessary for the different reactions?

How can you say that they are the same? They are totally different, but everyone likes what they like. I honestly don't see how you even think that they compare though.
The first statement is hair color. Any race can have any color of hair that they want. It is not hard for a woman to dye her hair..no matter what race they are.
The second statement that you made refers to skin color. No matter what people do, except for white people..we can not change our skin color. White people can go out and tan and have a "mocha" color. If I heard you say that you found "very few black girls attractive," I would not think you were a racist...I would just think that maybe you are more attracted to your race?
I just don't think you can compare the statements though...they might be physical preferences BUT one thing can be changed while the other can not.
What you have to remember is that we all like our own preferences and if we all liked the same thing, then we would be in trouble...there would not be enough of the same type of person to go around for everyone. flowerforyou

Some people are paranoid and always looking for things to get outraged about.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones yada, yada, yada...

Have preferences and ignore everyone else.

because you can change hair color but not your skin color.

So instead of blonde say I prefer someone who doesn't have freckles, and there are very few freckled people I find attractive, I still wouldn't get the same reaction as if it was white/black(even though it's still skin preference)

So is not finding very many freckled people attractive
the same as not finding very many black people attractive?

They are both skin.....

Well I personally think liking/ being attracted to a skin color is really a personal preference and not racist.

I can't say it is a biological based attraction or socially based attraction. I have entertained the idea that sometimes we are attracted to people who don't look like ourselves because we feel a different affection to family and lovers? Not necessarily a rejection of self or family.

I do think most people have a type they are predominantly attracted to. If you look at the pictures of people who have been married more than once it is surprising how often their dates/spouses look alike.

To me is when you assign character/intellectual defects to a particular skin color or other physical attribute that make them racist.

Like saying Blondes are dumb, red heads are hot headed, disabled people are dirty, people of color are lazy or white people are segregationist. Yea you might find those failings in those races but you will also find them in all races. sadly I think people can be conditioned into racisim. Sad because when you put a bunch of very young kids together they could care less about race and you don't see the labels that are later applied usually out of spite and jealousy. .

the difference is in one instance you are picking out a specific physical trait you don't like

a hair color, a skin complexion

black and white are no where near as specific as all races have millions of individuals and a diverse combination of features exists amongst those individuals in any race

A person can change their hair... it's superficial.
A guy thinking a woman isn't " attractive " because of hair... is silly, but.. " Hey, it's whatever" change her hair and she's pretty??

Saying" A black girl is generally " NOT attractive" Is VERY racist!
Who can change their race to be, someone's " version" of attractive??

This is saying... There are features of African Americans I find unattractive.

I'm personally not attracted to short men... It does not mean that they are NOT attractive.

I have physical preferences, not mandates

I like taller men and men with a certain swag to their walk and with nicely trimmed hair and with a man face,,,

but I don't click off the list when I find someone attractive,, they can have just one or two of the features but not the others and they will still be attractive

so, IM not attracted to shorter men either,, for instance

but I do love man with swag and nicely trimmed hair,, so I have found SHORT MEN, with nicely trimmed hair and swag attractive

its rather shallow, to me, to base attractive on any one physical feature,, unless it actually turns you OFF

im turned off by bones and rolls of flesh as well as unhealthy hygiene,,nothing could really make such a person physically attractive to me until those things were resolved

Honestly? Because the anti-racism and anti-discrimination has gone too far. When you're white, you have to be okay with everything, otherwise you're a racist. So even when you're not racist at all, you have to walk on eggshells and cannot voice your preference in a relaxed manner, you have to beat around the bush.
That's how it works over here anyways. And not only when it comes to black people (not sure if it works the same for other races??), but also when it comes to Muslims.
We got a lot of Moroccans here. Had it happen once that my then partner told a Moroccan kid he couldn't jump queue, like you would a white kid. Response, in a loud voice: "You me discriminate!!!"
noway noway

in America, no matter your race,, there is no law that requires you to be 'ok with everything'

nor does the culture require the mainstream race to adapt to and be 'ok with everything' ,,,,quite the opposite,,,

if you are american, in most cases, you are racist

but some statements are more racist than others,, regardless of who says them

and some people have more reason and history to believe such racist statements than others,,,

in this case, a discussion about why rating attractiveness on something as vague as 'race' is racist,,, turns into a pity party about how one can therefore not be ok with ANYTHING,,,

when in reality, common sense dictates, that when it comes to this ONE THING, race is not an asthetic quality that fits a definiiton of attractiveness,,,and those who think it does,, by defnition , have a RACIST belief

There's nothing wrong with saying you like blondes or freckles or pouty lips and green eyes.love It's what you like.

The problem for me... is SAYING , White( Black, Asian, Latino) people are GENERALLY unattractive to me.

I would NEVER say this.

And come to think of it.... YEAH, you're a big RACIST if you say this.
Even if you felt it... WHY the urge to TELL someone?

Again, I like tall guys but I'd never tell a guy who's 5'0 ft tall.." Oh, you are Waaay too short for me" whoa
It's rude... he may like his height or feels comfortable in his skin and other's maybe fine with it.. who am I to make it an issue.

Every one has different ideas on what is attractive its that simple. The problem isnt what you find attractive its what is socially acceptable to voice. And as for saying only white people can change their colouring is slightly flawed...people bleach their skin..tan their skin..hair colour..make up nails etc the list is endless. ...every race is beautiful and for every person there is someone who finds you attractive whether you are black white or pink with purple spots..even mr blobby had a girl and he was a puppet :-)
