Is it just me or is it kind of scary when someone has as a tagline or in their first communication that they are

'looking for a serious relationship'
'looking for my future wife'
'looking for someone to spend my life with'

etc.,,,,?

I don't know why, but it feels like a lot of pressure right off, like there is no other option to just get to know each other and build a friendship

It feels like if they spend time and it doesn't get 'serious' they will be offended

It feels like there is an expectation off the bat that the chemistry be some eternal romance,,

,,,just kind of spooks me, cause I don't know if Im gonna be all that for anyone, and Im not 'looking for ' it,,,,Im just open to the possibility,,,

with maybe specific mention of some things they enjoy doing or some values they have,,,etc,,,

It sometimes seems like some women have an agenda when it comes to relationships. And if a person doesn't seem like he will fit into these time constraints they move on.

i understand you right
, you need someone start his talking with sharing concerns , some funny stories and then make you feel of his interest of you

, but i want you to make sure that most of love stories ( friendships \ relationship ) start in some situations or in exchanging ideas and values so my opinion is to listen to everyone start talking to you don't govern him until you see his end and his purpose but don't talk about your privacy too much , ok

I have something like that in mine ... and believe I toned it down
a lot ...but i want them to know i am seeking a serious relationship
and it can come from on line or off ... but like u said might put some off so I thought just have fun in the forums and take it as it goes ... can't force love ... has to be natural...

Why so serious?

When I see that someone is looking for marriage specifically it just comes across as a bit odd. But then again, I think that when soomeone has strangely specific qualifications for a partner... whatever, is pretty strange. The whole... "someone out there" for me type of mentality... because that someone is probably a potential someone to a lot of other people.

I think that the idea of skipping steps or anything along that rationale is primarily an ideal saved for people who have been married before or raised in a culture where marriage, you know, means something. For me, it's tax write-offs and insurance benefits.

Which sounds better?

1) We can't stay married but we can still be friends.
2) We can't be friends but we can still stay married.

I know what you mean but if you think about it it's basically just saying that you're not just looking for sex. I try not to make a thing about it myself and I was having a conversation about it with a lady recently and I said that I'm not even sure what it means and what the difference is. In my opinion and experience when a woman says that she doesn't want anything serious that means that she just wants everything her way and it's just a relationship when it suits her.

Which reminds me...
I should have taglines in my profile.

Do ya think, the tagline, "I have beef jerky and beer"
will win me any dates?

It turns me off when you first meet someone and starts getting to know them. You start off by expressing what your interests are such as; you are not looking for a relationship but a friendship or sex partner. However after the sex, she wants to start calling you her boo, become demanding, and want you to spend all of your free time with her. She never remembers that you don't want a relationship so I say to all the women out there say what you mean and mean what you say. If you can't handle sex then friendships are just fine too.
