The trouble is, I like dogs.
So, if we stopped getting along, I would end up staying with her for the sake of the dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yep, it's a dog's life sometimes.

This might seem like a silly question and to some degree it is. But, I think that the OP's asking this because of a bigger problem. There's nothing wrong with being a responsible pet-owner and you should look after your animals. However, what I think the OP's trying to say is that from his own experience that the women with dogs who he dated could've been using pets as an excuse when in fact they weren't interested and some women do this.

Here's what sways my choice. If you invite them out and they say they can't go out because they are taking their dog for a walk then I lose interest. However, if they say they want to and invite me to walk with her and her dog, then that's attractive.

It is one thing to decline to date someone who pampers animals.
It is another thing to automatically rule out dating a person just because that person has animals.

Do all women with dogs act the way described in the OP? Answer: No.

I can only speak from my own experience but every single guy I dated with a pet treated me the way the Op was treated. So, yeah if a guy has a pet; I would certainly rule him out for dating. Like anything else; its just a preference. Its no worse than when people rule out others because of being overweight, having an occupation you don't like, not enough education, not making enough money, not tall enough, etc. Everyone has a right to rule out someone they feel would not be compatible with them.

if they gravitate to animals more than humans...

beware...

beware..

beware.

for Hitler loved animals...

with a defending passion.

but vehemently hated other humans that were not like him self.

beware...

beware..

beware.

of the fakes.

the pretenders.

those who love but what is like them self, only because they love and adore them self most in all the whole world.

the nihilistic.

the narcissistic.

for these can look loving, but they only love what is like them.

but are quite ok with all pain unto others and all others being destroyed.

I got this reply:

Holy cow!!!! I'm not alone! I'll admit, I'm still getting over my ex and the dogs play a big part. I love her dogs.....even got one for her (hanging my head in shame). However, the last year is when I really noticed how much the dogs came first. YES, cutting dates or time w friends short to let the damn dogs out. Screw that!!! She showed the dogs way more affection than me. Said she's just now an affectionate person......but she sure didn't mind letting those little shedding flea bags snuggle up in her bed. Speaking of which, someone mentioned hygiene...... UUUUHHHH!!! Her house has wood floors and its covered in dog hair. Her car is DISGUSTING!!! You absolutely cannot ride in it without getting covered in dog hair. The funny thing is, her personal hygiene is great. She's on of the cleanest and hottest girls I've been with. Her house.....car......bed........by far the dirtiest! When I started to seriously think about marriage, that is one thing that was a deal breaker, if I was honest w myself.
I read some stories and see where a girl might complain or say the guy is selfish. Ha! I treated this girl like GOLD and helped her w the dogs. I loved them like my own because they did like me a lot. Still, she loved her dogs the most!

New rule: No chicks with dogs unless an extensive screening shows they won't be a problem

I'm still waiting for the OP, or someone who thinks like him to explain their way of thinking. Do they think a woman should start loving the dogs less because these guys are in their lives? Should they treat their dogs worse because the guys don't like dogs as much? What are their expectations?

I think there are times when a choice might have to be made. By not dating women with dogs the OP is saying he does not want to confront that choice. It may narrow the field, but it will be a more suitable "field" for him.

I think both questions are valid - would you ask someone to give up a dog for you and his question of whether you would let a pet stop you from being with a loving partner. For myself I have confronted this before and the dog was a dealbreaker....eventually. But not the only one...there were other things....of course. And, his getting the dog w/out telling me signaled to me that I did not matter. So of course that is a deal breaker. Anyway, I think it is difficult for anyone to answer the questions posed until they are in a situation where they have to ask them.

I would not ask someone to give up a dog for me, but if he put the dog first too often that would not be acceptable. I would date someone with a dog again. It is a matter of the kind of person he is, not whether he has a dog or any pet. I also think it's harder for clean freaks (my issue) because it makes a lot more work that we did not necessarily sign up for....lol

I am a chic with a dog. I have a choclate lab. I dont sleep with him, but he does enjoy his time in the cab of my truck.. I have come to realize thst my dog is more loyal to me than a man. Just saying. Its not fair to stereo type. Maybe these women have had bad relationships and thier dogs are there to heal wounds. Dont judge..

Yeah; I have agree with this too. I have gone into people's houses that absolutely stunk because of their cat or dog. I love the new Febreeze commercial that says the pet owner has gone nose blind as they can't seem to notice the smell of their pets. Also; pet hair is everywhere and I end up scratching myself until I am raw as its very nasty. I might also add people have other pets such as mice, gerbils, rabbits, snakes, or fish and they are not obsessed by them. Sounds more like its the dog and cat owners that obsessive.

Actually dogs are only loyal to those that feed them as per this study done by scientist. Dogs would drop humanity for artificial intelligence in a second if offered a treat. A new study in Animal Cognition found that dogs interacted with robots similar to how they would with humans if those robots seemed 'social'.
