In light of a few news articles I have read about someone giving someone an STD without there knowledge and the person sued the person who gave it to them, I seen it suggested that people with STD's should have to register like Pedophiles, so I ask everyone who will take the time to offer there opinion.

My opinion is that is going a bit too far suiing them or having people with and STD register as a pedophile.
I would suggest that you ask your partner to be tested if you have any questions. If they won't then you don't need to have relations with them.

To knowingly infect a person with an STD that isn't treatable, should deem them to have to register as a sex offender.

Of course though had that person had any common sense, they would have made sure to use a condom to at least attempt to prevent getting or passing on said STD. 1st time being with someone and not knowing the other persons sexual health, that's just playing Russian Roulette.slaphead

Register with who.. the local police?.. and then have your photo on the internet.. like pedophile's, (rightfully so).

A pedophile is a criminal. A person with STD has a medical condition, they have not broken a law.

That being said, responsible people should always make sure their potential partner is "clean"

In my town, when a pedophile moves in we actually get a letter from the police dept. alerting us to the fact....Imagine if they had to do that for people with STD.. do I really want to know that " Frank, down the street" has herpes

If you are nottaking the time to be safe and know your partner you know the risk you are taking, but to KNOWINGLY spread an incurable disease should land someone in jail or be forced to pay their victem reperations.

But to have to register as/like a sex offender is going too far in my opinion.

Not only should they be required to be on a registry list, they should also be required to wear lettering on their clothing, identifying what they have.

...I really tried not to reply to this...personally...I think all the register offender stuff is a damn shame...don't get me wrong...I don't like "real" pedophiles or "real" seriously violent people any more than the average people...but the registries are full of too many people that don't fit the crime...one time offenders for violent acts,...men having to register as a sexual offender for a one time account with girls who said they were older...ect...now let's stick people on a registry for STD's...lol...maybe we could deny them jobs and housing like we do the rest of the "offenders"...makes for the perfect neighbor hood for sure...lol...just my opinion...

I'm with a couple of the above posters in that it would be helpful if people with dangerous STDs registered, but I don't believe they should be registered "like pedophiles". devildog123 summed up the difference very well.

As a point of interest, people working in the pornography industry DO have to register with a system if they contract an STD, as their livelihood is dependent on having safe, healthy sex. (Of various kinds.)

after reading this thread,,,,,

I have also always had issues with such registries and the attitude that people cant change,,,,

so, if someone knowingly infects another, that should be an assault charge

once they serve their time/fines,, that should be a record of their personal history,, but not posted on some registry,,,

Do you think people who have the flu or a cold should also register? What about those with cancer or diabetes? Although those are not contagious, but the flu, cold, and other illnesses are also contagious, should those be required to register as well? What about medical issues that could cause birth defects?

IMO.......No, they should not be required to register...Medical history needs to be protected for a myriad of reasons and this would open the door to violating a persons right to privacy....The responsibility for protecting oneself from contracting any type of STD's is individual, meaning it belongs to carriers AND non carries alike...

Oh I understand. I was just making a point. I wasn't trying to attack you or anything.

Imagine distinguishing STDs from the Pedophile registrar. Its like putting your hand in a bottle of thumb tacks to get a loose change in there.
