Haven't you noticed as time goes by, less and less people are intelligent, have passion in life and are capable of common sense ?

Of course there are exceptions, but they are getting rare :)

Are there people who enjoy the company of intelligent purposeful people on here ? ;)

Most people here are educated, experienced and quite lucid, except for a few who sound a little off but they are probably drunk or high. Luckily, there is no dearth of intelligent conversations. Good times.

I blame it on humanity tampering with natural selection. Gone are the days of lawn darts, kids riding bicycles without helmets, and 'good' fireworks. It's not that peop have gotten less intelligent, it's just that society has safetyized everything so that the stupid people have a harder time killing themselves off therefore decreasing the smart/window licker ratio.

This made me laugh, but oh so true! I do agree with OP about intelligence and a passion for life being more difficult to find, and I think the above gives a good explanation in a nutshell. I also agree with Jaan about not limiting oneself to a certain "type or group" of peeps. smile2

offtopic I still own an original Lawn Jart set shades (however, that doesn't make me intelligent, just more safety conscious)laugh

No.
At best I've noticed as time goes by, more and more people are intelligent, have passion in life, and are capable of common sense in the areas they've specialized in.

Of course there are exceptions, but they are getting rare :)

That might not be a bad thing.
The more people specialize as individuals, it means the fewer dilettantes or the easier they are to spot.

Jack of all trades master of none is not a good thing to be when everyone and everything in society is telling you to focus on your education, your career, to "know what you want," or they're tired of people that don't "know what they want."
That also continuously puts people in more rigidly defined groups for ostracizing.

Sure.
There are a lot of people who've have specialized into only being able to interact via internet dating site forum.

I enjoy the company of lots of people,
Some are more intelligent than others,

Most are way more intelligent than myself lol
But I don't let it interfere with making new friends
And finding out if the grass is yummier elsewhere

Others are funny and they make my days
happy and full of laughter and smiling they say
Keeps the wrinkles away lol.

Great friends come in all shapes, sizes, colours
and wattages (varying intelligence)

I don't believe in tieing your self down to a
specific group of people.

smile2 shades waving

How beautifully put  Very beautiful and wise words

I fully agree, there are so many things different types of people may offer which have nothing to do with intelligence ...

... But it is just a trend that I am noticing, that the global society (the mass) is encouraging stupidity, and it is becoming quite acceptable sometimes and even desirable(by some) to be stupid. An example would be : how on earth can anyone be "bored" in such an amazing and rather limitless world ? But yet soooo many people are bored and even posting about it like it was something to be proud of .

There was even a "viral" post on facebook which valorized people who talk without even thinking ... and people were so happy and proud to relate to it slaphead

... getting back to the subject(relationships), based on the experiences I had in years of being around women in all sorts of relationships, it is very hard to communicate with someone who refuses to think, reflect and have an open mind(surely based on habit), and ...

...ON THE OTHER SIDE it is such a delight and pleasure to communicate and interact with people who do think and reflect ... I personally get hard ons while being and talking with intelligent partners who made the decision to live amazing passionate lives :) The experience is just so effortless, rich and beautiful love

my favorite quote is "if you're the smartest one in the room, then you're in the wrong room"

do I think society as a whole is becoming less intelligent. ..absolutely!

Have you ever seen the movie "Idiocracy"? unfortunately I think it is becoming a documentary

Owning (and still living, unscathed) can to a point make one more safety conscious. However, ultimately the darts seek out the slowest and stupidest of the herd early on, therefore preventing them from reproducing and creating even more idiots.

Seems to be the prevalent case around here whoa

Who wants to listen to some Muslims share their views on religion and sex... it's why we all stick around here... so entertaining whoa

Oh I don't know....there still seems to be enough of the "nature weeding out the stupid" incidents. lol

Maybe just not enough of them.

I think this is one of those perception things.

It seemed to me for a while, that people in general were getting worse. But I finally came to recognize that that's not the case at all.

What actually happens, is that as I become more knowledgeable and experienced myself, I learn to see through more and more of the facades people put in place to hide the fact that they've always been less insightful than they think they are.

It's a bit like studying history in more detail, and learning that many of the people we were told as kids, were brilliant, caring, and wise, were closer to being flawed average joes and joans in amazing circumstances.

I dont know whether people are more or less intelligent,,

I do feel that people are LAZIER in their thinking as they are used to having access to instant information that doesnt require them to do much thinking

I think people have as much passion as ever, but for different priorities than they once did

on the common sense issue however, it does seem there is less of it,, but I think thats a side effect of the lazy thinking
