After reading many of the replies and thinking on them I realize that being online is "safe" to a point. Online you can be who you think/what you are but not who you really are. When you meet someone face to face it is hard to cover up the real you. Every profile reads the same , "cheerful, ambitious, kind, thoughtful, honest, faithful yadayadayada." I gt potential matches from ladies 1/3 my age 9,000 miles away. I got one from someone close by and upon meeting realized that the picture was 20 years old. All the hype about activity and adventurousness was hogwash. A walker does not lend itself to hiking in the mountains. My own picture is 2 years old and should be updated. I have, maybe 5 pictures of me since HS, most of those were when I was a Submarine Sailor.

The current day form of communication has gotten absurd. When I was working I would get an email from the person in the office next to mine asking if I wanted to go to a certain place for lunch, I replied by email. Looking back I am amazed and shocked. What has happened to face to face in person other than facebook, twitter, wassup and twaddle?

Walk along any street in any country and a large portion of the people are so busy texting that they never see a live person.

I don't remember when I joined here, it's been a few years and I have posted my share of ideas. Mostly I have read others. Sorry but a computer does not hold your hand or give you a hug or a cup of tea when you have a cold, or are just in a funk. I am thankful for my dogs (3) that do most of that (except for the tea, they can't seem to get it strong enough).

Here for the forums, been here for a very long time at first it was to vent during my divorce, then I met a really nice woman on here but that didn't work out, we just weren't right for each other. Later IRL I met someone, but by that time I realized I really enjoyed the forums and the people here so I stayed.

Been with my girlfriend 8 years now, so nkt looking but I enjoy forums

I come on here because it is better than being alone with my own thoughts... I come on here, because on those days, when I have nowhere else to go.. ...because
it is better to be on here@ with complete strangers... then feeling all alone in my own home... pacing the hallways of my mind.. it keeps me from feeling and thinking to myself !.
what's the matter with me?.. why am I not with someone right now.. being on here!.. pushes out the loneliness from my mind....yup... okay that ^. And there's always popcorn..    ...

it's not easy to find women that aren't real judgmental about certain things... like how long people are on a website..

Oh come on, Mighty ... why so grumpy?
I've never asked a man how long he's been on a site for, yet almost every man asks me that question ...
Dunno why it's so bloody important to men? If to them there is a right and wrong answer or whether it's a bad attempt to start conversation.
I used to worry about it at first, don't anymore.

I'm just passing my 2nd anniversary of being a member of Mingle2.
It's not as simple for some of us that live in the sticks, not near a larger city. For me, I seem to have to search outside my local area, as there aren't many active profiles for women in my area.
Plus, not many women would care for my type, as I don't conform easily.

oops guess some of us just aren't meant to find a relationship. ohwell

Every man I have met on this site is a liar. They claim that they are business men-- from contractors to CEOs. Claiming to be working overseas, then they 'fall on hard times' and need money. Ladies and men, you will be a total fool if you give money to someone claiming they love you, but you never physically meet. Crazy !!!!

Do a search of every pic BEFORE you respond. I use Google photos. Block and report the scammers. It will save a lot of frustration. The rest proceed with caution. Good luck in your search

I think mingle2 is for mature people. Because there's nothing buy older people on this site... I haven't even been able to find people in my area. Most of the people who message me are from a different country.. :unamused:

Honestly it Isn't difficult to find someone... people make it difficult because everyone is picky and stuck on their own ways and they're looking for "perfection".. That doesn't exist I think this generation has changed to the worst as far as dating goes.. Yuck !!
Right now everyone is dating everyone passing germs and STDs there's no such thing as stability anymore

I have to respectfully disagree with you. I don't think we are looking for "perfection" as much as looking for the perfectly imperfect one for us. I know I was and when I wasn't looking he came and snagged me.

As far as passing the germs and STD's around well there are tests for that. To make sure no one is passing anything around.
