I was already acquainted with the expression "Boo" in reference to a girlfriend, but as a Melmacian, I had to give the OP the literal version, too.

Now I'm confused about who's pulling who's leg here now :/
I live in a tiny piddly country in Europe and even I know what a black man means with "boo".
I personally dislike it. To me it sounds derogatory.

Well since that word is usually associated with a scare tactic , I can see why it doesn't exactly get your romantic juices flowing CrystalFairy ... or mine for that matter  I am no linguist expert but from what I understand, the term "boo" is actually derived from the french word "beau", which we all know means beautiful , so the intentions were good happy .
Now that you know of its sweet origin, does the petname " boo" make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside????
.....................

Me neither.

I think you might be right about the true origin joe. I just googled it lol. In my island of Trinidad where I live , 'bae' is not popularly used. Neither is 'boo' for that matter but we know about it because of the strong influence of American music here .Interestingly enough the research I googled stated that most people ASSUME that ' bae' comes from the word babe when the truth is what you said joethebricky. IVE BEEN SCHOOLED and I love it! Thanks!

Ps: Winx is right. It really is very sweet that your daughter calls you that :)

I was surprised too RebelArcher. I thought they were all joking until the question was asked by 3 different people. To be fair, 'boo' was used way more in the 90's than it is used nowadays I think. They are familiar with 'bae' because its way more current. Come to think of it...Maybe the focus shouldn't be on them not knowing about a term that was popular in the 90s . Maybe we should be embarrassed that the both of us are stuck in a time warp! Hahaha

Ps: You didn't help one bit in proving our relevance when you started waving around funky words like the george jefferson and the stanky leg

... References from the 70's ...whoa

Sorry Crystal I was serious...
I even asked another friend up here before I asked in here.
He had never heard of it either.

Another great reason why I like the Forums so much I learn something new almost everyday.
