I am trying to understand your comment..
If someone contacts you (messages you)...and you reply... and then maybe you give them your personal email for further chatting off this site.. are you asking should you de-activate your account?
I am saying NO in that scenario...

I like going on the forum so I would prefer not to deactivate but I wouldn't want to give the wrong impression why I wouldn't deactivate x

Myself if they can not use the e-mail here we don't talk it is as private as they need it to be...whoa

Once I feel comfortable to meet them and they are local normally do that within less then two weeks.. Since I don't do LDR it makes it much easier to meet them and get to know them..

As far as deactivating it won't happen for more reasons then one.. Not only cause I'm a mod but have been here so long I have come to know many on here as friends...

Now if I was on another dating site and was there just for that and actually got to know someone and met them and we got along good enough for date 2 and more.. Then yea I would delete/deactivate my account there... once I felt that we had that connection and moving along..

Thanks private emails are more easier assessable if you are going to chat more frequent X

For everything is based on trust with someone and a strong feeling that someone is not asking for money or a scammer. Unfortunately many woman on free sites are scammers and I'm careful

A lot of male scammers too and it is difficult to trust when you have never met x

I think the most important thing in dating is following your gut and being transparent with the other person.

From what I've seen thus far, online dating often has a very transient quality about it, so making it an exclusive arrangement after a few weeks or a couple of months may not be the most advisable direction to go.

But if your gut is telling you that this is something to be taken seriously and you are accustomed to your gut being right , then proceed accordinglyly.

If you decide to remain connected on mingle because your gut is telling you to, then the important thing is to communicate it to him so he remains in the loop :)

How long would you go into private chat with someone until you feel comfortable with the person and would you say it is best to deactivate your account if you go into private chat with someone

Personally, how I approach it is thus:
1. I try to set up a date pretty quickly.
2. When/if we set up a date/meet I stop coming to the site or just delete/deactivate my profile then.
2a. If we just talk online, private chat, no reason to do anything with the dating site profile. It's not real until you actually meet in person.
3. If/when we go on a date/meet and I want to see them again I continue not going to the dating site.
4. If/when it doesn't work out, I return to the dating site.

Deactivating/deleting an internet dating site profile is pretty pointless, IMO.
It takes less than 5 minutes to start a new one.

Just general messaging is fine, it's only a liye extension of the threads.. But I try to avoid any skype or video chat or anything along those lines.. that can definitely lead to complications.. spock

Bottom line ...Never give out email address, phone number, including Skype ID, and any other personal details....till you have actually MET the user in person, and yes, gotta look like their picture absolutely....and yes, if you actually LIKE the said person.....this is very important....
Use the site messaging system it is way safer and secure....Scammers are looking for your email add, phone number....and money (thats their bonus)....they already made money if they got the other two from you with no problem...just saying..
