I'm posing this to those older then me, but by all means all opinions are welcome. Does anyone else feel the older you get the less confidence you have in the leaders of this country. Now I'm slightly educated and understand the president really doesn't have much power anymore and the house and senate push their party and personal agendas under the guise of serving "we the people". I guess what my rambling is trying to say is that when I was younger, in my mid 20's I just felt that there really could be changes for the better. Perhaps with age comes disillusionment (that may not be a real word).

I am in agreement with you. With each side trying to push their agenda and unwilling to compromise, I see no strides being made to fix problems. Of course the corporations get richer and richer and they sqaunder my social security by stealing from the fund. Anyway, can't really see anybody worth voting for this trip around.......for sure some changes need to be made

Not sure its relevant, but I am a staunch democrat and always vote with my party, even if the choice given is not really a choice at all.

That's the problem right there (no offense). We need to move away from a two party system, so we as a nation are not so polarized. The libertarians have great ideas, but for whatever reason, you never see them in the debates. It's too bad.

I know exactly what you mean. I do not count myself as part of ANY party, and I vote based on what I consider ot be the biggest issue at the time. For example if their is a hole in the dam, and I have two contendors, one saying he is going to come up with a way to fix that dam (patch it initially if neccesary), and the other one saying he is going to find a way to save the natural life in danger of the dam, I am going to vote for the one fixing the dam as it solves both problems.

read up on Rome and babylon to name just two famous countries of the past. Then relate them to the United States and see if you dont start having nightmares.

Well, after seeing USA today's latest poll leave Ron Paul out of the numbers, I'm convinced that it's all just a game to make us think we shouldn't care...

The truth is, we should all research candidates and support our decisions by exposing others to our chosen candidates...

If you don't know much about Ron Paul, google him and see what our country really needs...

I actually want to move to spain someday. Not that its better governed, just that I like the lifestyle there better. As for canidates I feel like the two major parties are virtually the same now. Can't get over there differences and it is obvious they cater to big buisness. I really don't know whom to vote for at this point. By the time my primary comes around the major players will have been decided anyway....Just can't wait to see.

Both Rome and Babylon are considered to be two of the worlds greatest historical governments. Both were the epitome of science and politics of hteir time, and even now in some cases, yet both fell due to their own ignorance and self greed. they literally grew too fast and too high to be able to survive; just like a tree that grows too fast has to be whittled down in order to let its roots expand, we need to do the same thing, or we will end up killing ourselves just like Rome and babylon did.

I agree with needing to move away from the 2 party system. There are plenty of people with good ideas who never get heard. As far as why I vote with my party, well for starters I despise organized religion and the power it wields in this country. this puts me ideologically at odds with the republican party. I also do not like republican views on spending and taxation. So in a sense I go with my opinion of lesser of two evils.

After reading my post again, I think it should have been titled "your vote doesn't count and it sucks". The electoral college and the whole process seems stuck in the 19th century and will never change. Let's also not forget that elections are more about money; how much you can raise, how much you can put in the pockets of those needed to get someone elected and how much you can deliver over your term to those same people and their "friends"

Lastly please don't take my opinions as anything other then just that, my opinions. I do take some solace in the fact we can say what we think and feel and share opinions. At least that's something they got right 200+ years ago and hasn't changed, yet...

I think Douglas Adams said it best -

"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."

I would like to see Ron Paul get a better look in this process. Ok, I will stop talking now.

Not a religious fanatic here but seems this country was partly founded for those reasons. Religious persecution, so for many people religion seems to play a big part. They are going to pic a canidate that follows there beliefs and will try to live by them. I don't have the answer as to the mixing of politics and religion but do think in some areas they are very intertwined to alot of people.....Kinda a question of morality in a canidate in some cases? I don't know, tired and rambling....sorry.
