Imayokpa ona Ayokpachi(Love to Smiless)

I wrote the following song for Smiless using a language from North American Indians. The song lyrics are in bold print, the English translation is in italics.

Imayokpa ona Ayokpachi
(Love to Smiless)
Chi innachoffi áalòosi isno
(You give much of yourself)
Chi ommi naho thakchatilka
(you be sorely missed)
Aa áalo Chi fíhna káhno
(I wish you very best)

Chi ommi kotha aatikàano okla
(You be such wonderful friend)
Aa onka báana sómbàyli Chi
(I will always remember you)

ifayli óyha isno imachiiba yanatli pínha
(may all your troubles flow away)
ifayli isno okchaliiya ommi ìsitoffi
(may your life be free)
ifayli óyha isno imalahkaha iskano
(may all your family be well)
ifayli isno okla ommi máafìiko
(may your friends be many)

You can hear a performance of the Song here:

Actually it was just a guitar. The odd scrubbrush type sound was me trying to play it. laugh

I also recorded it in very low quality to keep the file size down. It sounds better in person I promise.

I'm glad you like it John. You're always inspiring me to learn new languages. Although, I'm not sure if an American Indian would recognize the words. I was kind of guessing at how to pronounce them. But I did use the chart on the dictionary as best I could.

Consider it a 'fantasy' version of one of the American Indian languages. bigsmile

The dictionary I used said the following:

Alabama is a native American language spoken today primarily by members of the Alabama-Coushatta Reservation near Livingston, Texas. It belongs to the Muskogean language family which now also includes the languages Koasati (spoken by the Coushatta tribe), Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, Seminole, and Mikasuki. Some of these languages are more closely related to each other than are others. For instance, Chickasaw/Choctaw, Creek/Seminole, and Alabama/Koasati have sometimes been described as pairs of dialects. Alabama and Koasati, however, are better considered as two separate languages; a speaker of Alabama who has not by chance learned to speak Koasati too would not be able to understand a fluent speaker of Koasati very well, and vice versa.

It appears to be a combination of several languages anyway, so I could always use the excuse that my pronounciations are a 'different kind of dialect'.

It was just for fun. Not meant to be historically authentic.

It would be kind of interesting to hear what they would say about the song.

Then again, maybe not! laugh

Well it sounded good to me! lol

If anything a new language has been invented if you pronounced it wrong. laugh

I could send it to the Miccossukkee Tribe of Indians and see what they say. They probably would look at me perplex if I did for they have a different language all together.

In the end it is sad that alot of these languages are dying out anyway as many of the younger generations just speak English now.

Waiting for my daughter to come home so we can sing it together and laugh alot. This is what it is all about. Singing and dancing.

Well, if you're going to be playing it on your piano you'll need the chords.

Here a PDF file with the chords arranged above the sylables where they are played.

I also included a small glossy of the words. Although it's pretty close to a direct translation from the English counterparts.

Any attempt to be compassionate to a friend, is always a blessing.

And to have a friend seek knowledge as to another's culture, is to be a real caring friend to have..

A GREAT job Abra....and a great gift to get Smiless..
May you both share many real smiles and a long friendship..drinker

You have got to be kidding me.
You telling me that what I said seemed more stonerish than that!? Just because I want to use my brain and think? I'm 27 not 12 people. Come on. You have got to be joking. I dont know what the hell that was. Go to http://fictionwriting.about.com/ and search "create writing"

I mean that was awesome. Whatever it was. But if mine wasn't creative writing. That definitely wasnt. Check it out yourself!

Here is a story of a man
He puts something somewhere
Someone moves it
He didn't want it moved
Someone touched something of his
that he wanted in a certain place
unasked
understandable
two parties thought differently
he feels unappreciated
temperment fragile
He is touched
and told
not sold on the fact
that his gold
was poled
rehooked
thrown overboards
landing here

clear
where his philosophy

seriously
this is
obviosly
an atrocity
propelling
the audacity
to a velocity
so ferociously
it makes you think

is He, the Monster?
or the one who moved
his decision without any consent?

Yes we will try to play it on the piano. We both suck by the way, but we don't give up. I think we laugh more then anything when we don't know what we are doing, but we sometimes get a few songs right on.

Thanks for the chords Jamesdrinker
