I fail to rationally understand how bills like that even exist in the first place. Ah yes, that's right - religious guilt-trip cover for simply trying to keep every last fetus (read: future taxpayer and potential idiot voter) alive and breathing... way to go republicans. Way to be.

<<< a democrat who is pro life, feels medical prerequisites already exist for many procedures and wouldnt oppose such prerequisites for this one(abortion IS a surgery of sorts), just on the fence as to what those prerequisites should be

I dont think anyone should go into a medical procedure ignorant, and a certain amount of medical explanation should go along with any procedure,,,,,how realistic that explanation should be ,,,hard to determine

when I had my hysterectomy, they showed me the uterus, explained exactly what they would do , the risks, and the benefits

I think the same should be done with abortions,,,but where 'the law' would come into it,, I dont know

Do you really think those who are getting abortions are going in without anything explained to them at all?

I dont know what is explained. I know at one time, women receiving hysterectomies were not explained the risks and reality of recovery

I dont know when or IF that became mandated, but Im glad I had as much information about the procedure as possible before making a decision,,,,,,Im glad I was able to appreciate the seriousness of it

my answer would be

yes, faith is moral

'truth' is something that has to be tempered with logic and knowledge and the ability to put things in context and understand 'truth' as both subjective and objective, depending upon the situation,,,

I agree. My study guests were much more into interpreting numbers from biblical scripture than I am (like assuming how old the earth is or what year Jesus reign on earth begins/began,,,etc), but it was interesting to see how they came to their conclusions,,,,

did you know that the highly revered 'founding fathers' consisted of men who both USED DRUGS and HAD AFFAIRS,,,,,?

why do you suppose our political landscape is so distracted with these issues today when it comes to judging our modern politicians?

what changed that we could revere drug users and adulteresses, and still do if they were 'founding fathers', but our current politicians we run through the mud for the same things?

why is it any worse to destroy a life two months outside the womb than it is two months inside the womb?

why is same sex marriage being pushed so much harder than civil unions? if the issue is civil rights,,,,?

we change everday , every moment, and so does our world

change is not whats confusing, inconsistency is,,,,

Does anyone here go? When I first went I didn't know what it was. My friend from work invited me and all she asked was "do you like animals?" Chyeah I said. I thought it was going to be completely different from what it was. I was raised Jewish so this is a wee bit opposite than what I am used to. It turned out to be really fun. I never considered converting. I suppose being open-minded I found a new respect for it. I didn't think I would enjoy reading the bible as much or really think and apply both the old and new testaments to every day life. But this is what it was. And its great. Good friends, a dinner and a nice discussion. We all have a great interaction and vibe going. I feel accepted for the first time. blushing

Anybody else go? What's yours like?

when I lived in Ohio, there was a family of Jehovah Witnesses who came to my home weekly to have bible study with me,, although some of our interpretations were different, they really knew their bible and I really enjoyed our time

to me a relationship can only be successful when both partners are committed and dedicated towards achieving success.

communication, common values, friendship, loyalty, respect

cant think of how any relationship with those five things can fail

as far as I know,, the laws of the land come FIRST

any religious practice that doesnt conflict with THE LAW,, is basically a right

child molestation, assault, murder,,etc,, are against the law
any such religious practice would/should also be,,,

wearing a certain article of clothing is not against any law, and therefore would/should be a right,,,

and within every religious belief is an ideology that a believer brings to society and/or The World that in their minds transcends Man's Law, and since beliefs are what governs one's actions and/or their frame of mind then would a belief not reveal the true nature of a person

FOR EXAMPLE
followers of God therefore must approve that it's ok to torture or murder people for what they believe in...or don't believe in ..especially since this is the idealogy of their God or Gods in general

this could result in endless arguments and debates whether the people brought the wrath of GOd upon themselves until you remind them that their belief is based on Faith and Faith envokes responsibility from God and onto the believer

and this is why this thread seeks a clear explanation as to what Faith is...when it comes to if one has the right to believe

1. belief is not action

we have the right to BELIEVE whatever we want

we just dont have a (legal) right to behave in whatever manner we want

2. the topic was introduced regarding PRACTICES, which may be actions, and the answer is still that the law of the land predominates any religious tradition or belief when it comes to our ACTIONS

3. There is a general difference between, for instance, expecting a DOCTOR to be able to perform surgery, and expecting any general layman to do so. People have their own interpretations of where , in the bible, specific requests are being made for specific people(when some have been called upon for a specific purpose) in specific situations or general guidance is being given (such as commandments that governed life in general)

on a sidebar:

my mom used to say,,"If I just wanted someone to be in agreement with me, Id talk to a mirror"

AND

I always thought unsolicited advice referred to people volunteering advice that was IN NO WAY prompted by request or conversation, like when trying to do something and someone is leaning over your shoulder explaining what THEY would do,,,or how THEY would do it,,,,

Why is that when you are talking to someone and just need someone to listen they offer you advice on how to make things better? I do not need strangers advice. If I want advice I will ask for it and unless I do SHUT-UP!

I don't know...

Are you asking for advice here???

It doesn't bother me at all. Marraige is just a word. Whether it's called marraige or whatever I don't care.I understand it though. I could be in a loving commited relationship with a man for 30 years and in most states I wouldn't be allowed to marry him. On the other hand I could walk to the nearest bar, meet a drunken slut, fly to Las Vegas, and be married within the hour(it might take longer just to get to Vegas, but you get the point). Which do you think is a better choice?

we cant read peoples minds or know their intentions BUT when it comes to marriage there is an absolute presupposition of 'consummation'(sex),

the government sanctioning the type of sex required for life is one thing, the government sanctioning sodomy and other 'alternative' sex is another,,,,

Im for equal rights, and a CIVIL UNION(which would have Nothing to do with peoples sexual habits and choices, or 'consummation') for other relationships,

everyone is different and most people cant read minds

whereas you dont want feedback, someone else may be wanting exactly that

its best to speak what you want instead of expecting people to guess,

a simple lead in of 'Im not looking for any advice, I just need to vent' would solve that problem
