Ezekiel 16:49
" 'Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.

Amos 5:11
You trample on the poor and force him to give you grain. Therefore, though you have built stone mansions, you will not live in them; though you have planted lush vineyards, you will not drink their wine.

Matthew 5:3
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:21
Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

John 2:15
So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.

Matthew 19:24
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Luke 4:18
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed,

Luke 6:20
Looking at his disciples, he said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

Luke 11:41
But give what is inside the dish to the poor, and everything will be clean for you.

Lets take Amos 5:11. Do you know that the monetary food aid that the US gives to other countries that are in the midst of a famine must be spent on US grown food. So that means any amount of food that the farmers in the poor country have manged to grow is now worth nothing. It could have had a great value when our US tax dollars got there and boosted things up but instead it went to impoverish the poor man and possibly make him worse off then he was before. Possibly put many farmers out of business for good and make the country poorer in food production then it was.

Amos 5:11
You trample on the poor and force him to give you grain. Therefore, though you have built stone mansions, you will not live in them; though you have planted lush vineyards, you will not drink their wine.

I have to agree with you Abra. I don't drink, or smoke, or do drugs, . I never did. Never felt like I was in the dumps and needed to be saved. Also I was raised from an infant in the Church very involved at all times. I never was away to be brought back.

In the Old Testament, God is called the rock. In the New Testament, Jesus is called the rock. God is a stable and unchanging foundation upon which we can build our faith. I like beliefs that don't change. Nobody will go to war for brotherly love. Nobody will go to war to love their neighbors. It's when people have lost sight of the core beliefs that Jesus lived and died to teach us that Christians become willing to fight for their beliefs.

Dying for your beliefs isn't such a bad thing. If something is truely important to you like freedom or tolerance or love, then you should be willing to die for your beliefs.

Dying for your beliefs isnt the problem, its when you think you have the right to kill others for them is when it turns from faith to fanaticism. Dont tell me thats "gods way"..

laugh

Wow. I HAVE NEVER SAID THAT ANYONE SHOULD BE KILLED. "Dont tell me thats "gods way".."...OKAY... WHY WOULD I? I don't believe that way. WOW. Do you think I'm sitting here with a Hockey mask on waiting for a non-Christian to walk by so that I can kill him/her? Get a grip.

The Inquasition

It doesn't seem very right to shape your philosophy and your beliefs from a hollywood movie.

And changing ideas just sounds like you want to conform to whatever anyone else thinks of your ideas.
Like chaff in the wind.. :)

I'm right with you. I didn't want to "conform to anyone else thinks" so I broke away from my parents religion of Christianity and went on my own.
You too I bet. Opened your eyes and blazed your own trail with your own thoughts away and diffrent then the way you were raised. Good for you. You are no longer Chaff my friend.

Peace in thruth

I consider all information.

If what you believe is a lie, wouldn't you want to know it?

I would, because I seek truth.

If you truly seek truth, you are not afraid to consider all information.

JB

No, I think you are seeking to justify what you see as the truth but that nagging question "what if I am wrong" keeps nagging at you. For that same reason you find atheists in a religion forum. On the cover it would appear that they are debating with hatred and malicious intent when in reality the simple fact is that they are not sure if they are right in their beliefs. After all what is truth concerning the unknown without faith? Doubt.flowerforyou

This is such a ridiculous statement. Do you think that only politicians should go in the political threads? Only Poets in the poet thread? Only Cooks in the Cooking thread?

These places are for people that want to discuss religion. To those of us that see religion as a real threat to society we REALLY REALLY need to discuss religion. We are through letting the religious people be the only ones to give their point of view.
I'm sorry your religion is so threatened by anyone that speaks against it. I would think "God" would be stronger then that. If I really had "God" on my side. I would not be scared to listen to anyone.

peace in truth

Thanks for your comment rabbit. flowerforyou By your own admission you are in this forum with an agenda. Your agenda is to condemn Christianity. Your narrow view compells you to lump all Christians in the same gas chamber. Why do you assume I have a religion? First and foremost I am a Christian. I have faith. Wouldee explains my view on churchianity when he speaks of his own view. Sure, anyone is allowed to discuss religion in this forum. You should try it sometime. You are here not to debate but to parade your hatred of Christianity. Childish one line jabs and diatribe do not aid any debate. flowerforyou

I never mentioned Christianity you did.

I stand corrected. flowerforyou I assumed that since EVERY chance you get to denounce Christianity is pounced on by you with childish giggling glee that the stated moronic comment was a continuation of the cornucopia of moronic comments made by you to date.I hope you will forgive me for misunderstanding your love filled bull sh*t. flowerforyou

Titus 1:16
They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.

wabbitt whats funny is what you are saying is more truth than fiction. study them out and see who fits..shalom>>Miles

Thats what frustrates me so. They can only see it as a lie. Why would I just sit around lying. There is no purpose to it. I do make jokes and use sarcasm at times. Maybe I need to use more smilies at those times.

However I took that religion seriously when I was in it. I took the the comandment of "not lying" and lost my religion as I followed it to its natural end. I couldn't just bend the words in the Bible to fit my own personal views.
Now so many people here that follow that religion really don't care what the book says. It doesn't even seem important to them to make it make sense. It kind of blows my mind.
I'm getting side tracked but I think you are right.

It's pretty funny how close you are to the people on "this side of the line".

I would say you described me pretty well to in that if God exists then why would I need miracles. Isn't our existence miracle enough.

I can only assume by your evasiveness that your hidden agenda is true, rabbit.

I am questioning you, not your God.

Elsewhere, you have declared differently than this claim.

Are you confused?

quote the source of your knowledge, please, that such a name is attached to Zeus.

In the light of day does truth shine, Rabbit.

I cannot understand you if you seek to be only misunderstood.

Why do you need to concentrate on my religion. Why don't you just concentrate exclusively on yours. Show the joy that your religion brings you but don't ever try to debate this which you do not understand.

The sun shines on all the earth. On whom does its ray not extend? Every man of every nation feels it. If one dares to behold the beauty of it for too long, it will burn the light from his eyes forever.

But, there the sun stands, immovable. What could make such an amazing wonder? For though it is many millions of miles away, it heats deserts and kills men! What could make such an amazing wonder!

The sun puts mans attempts at creation to shame. Oh man, are you even wiser than the magnificent One who created the sun? If you are, then replicate it. Make one yourself oh man; if you are so powerful. Go ahead, if you know better than God. Not even! If you know just, as much as God; do it!

Oh man, from where does your pride come? God made hundreds times hundreds of thousands of these suns, and you cannot fathom just one. Be humble you man, and take awe in the God who created the sun!

I know my ancestors did him one better because they created God.

Revelations 1 : 8.

"I am the Alpha and O mega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Revelations1 : 11.

Saying, "I am the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write it in a book, and send it unto the seven churches, which are in Asia ; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea"

It also is said in Revelations 21:6 and 22:13.

These sayings are held sacred to Christians and warnings are given in this book not to be altered by man.

I wonder, Rabbit, if you can quote where your source is and cite it verbatim that Zeus said these things?

Or are you lifting these remarks cavalierly to insult and defame something very dear and sacred to Christians with an alterior motive in mind?

I haven't made a judgement yet, only asking for some clarification here.

You have said this before.

I still wonder about it.

The previous tthread that you stated this gave a very clear indiication that your intent was to be argumentative.

Is that antagonism still present?

If so, why?

Why do spend time questioning my God. Can't you just be happy with the God you have. Why all the persecution of Zeus. You have no right to say anything about Zeus.

The only true God is Zeus. He is the only one that can save your soul. If you want to KNOW what is real then you only have to worship Zeus. Zeus is the Alpha and Omega.

Jeannie... I can clearly see that there is a MISUNDERSTANDNG on your part ,and some others ...about what Wouldee is trying to get across here.

But before I make an attempt to explain,
let me say this....

Jeannie... have you noticed how we christians here, normally do not say anything negative about your Tarot cards?
Or anyone else's paganism?
Or panthesism?
Or the New Chruch?
Or any other belief mentioned and shared here?

Why?
Because as Christians, it is not our place or DUTY, or even DESIRE , to bash other religions or beliefs.

And also, we don't know enough about your religions in the first place, so therefore we are NOT QUALIFIED to make judgements or remarks about your religion.

UNLESS we have FIRST STUDIED your religions THOROUGHLY , we are NOT QUALIFIED to make remarks or judgments ......and to do so, , would have us speaking DISRESPECTFULLY and in ERROR.

NOW...What if we christians came into this forum and made it our duty to KNOCK your religions and tarot cards....and said that it was all a lie....when this was supposed to be a sharing and discussion forum.....wouldn't that be totally disrespectful on our part?
Especially if we did not know that much knowledge about your beliefs in the first place?
How would you feel?

See what Wouldee has been trying to say all along now?

What Wouldee is trying to get across to us all here is...IF you are not knowledgeabe in christianity, allow others that are, to speak and share on the subject ...base on REAL truth..and not on heresay or mere churchianity that you and others here, have sadly been exposed to in the past(hence the reason so many or disillusioned).
And by the same token, YOU speak on what YOU are knowledgeable on...... we can all share and discuss and learn together...but just leave out all the negativity.

Let us continue to share our beliefs, but at the same time, respect each other's differences ,also.flowerforyou

When we respect each other, others around us will respect us too here.

Are you kidding that you do not say anything negative about other religions. You say that those people are going to burn in hell.

That seems kind of negative
