Unbuntu is a great starter linux os. Pretty user friendly. What makes
that possible is a great .RPM packet selection for easy installation of
progs. Of course the best installs are from source, but if the RPMs are
for your linux distro then there are no problems. Mandrake mandrivia is
also pretty good for begainners.

The biggest problem with gaming nowadays is the different coding done in
different platforms of the same game. Most people use that as a
comparision. Fact is, in just the plain simple truth is that the
graphics on PC based games are alot better then thier set top
counterparts. Things like pixal shadings and anti asailing cannot be
touched from a great pc. FACT. Set top boxes are limited, and these
companys are loving it. They rack up money from the comsumers from older

whole new box for you to buy. It's just all about money. Why do you

Oh I'm sorry that there was something else. thathandsomebrotha, Win
vista does have a 'hard drive killer' built into it, that makes it
almost impossible to install a different earlier version of windows
after a vista install. The best way that I found to wipe the drive, is
to use a linux OS to reformat the drive, then you can reformat it again
into ntfs for winxp to make it work. MrSandman_Reborn, you are a day
late and a dollar short to get a free beta that is legal. Also the price
range for this vista OS can run aproxx between 200 and 400 dollars.

I have extensivly used vista, checking for imcompatiblitys in multi
different ways shapes forms and functions with multipal progs. From my
gatherings, vista sux. I even have many friends that bought new PCs with
it installed, and they don't even like it. Sure it has a very nice
looking GUI, but it is nothing more than the copyng of 'eye candy' ideas
that many linux distros have already had included for years. So why pay
hundreds of dollars for an OS that is limited and locked and decides
what you can install or not, when you can buy an OS that is totally free
with no limitations. That graphically looks just as good if not better.

Have you heard of the second net? It can easily upload at 100mb per sec
all the way accross the coast to coast.

Are you using a windows version of firefox Verb? If so then that may be
your problem. Linux has the secure plugins that prevent the buffer
overflows and such that prevent this type of hacking.

Mistake number one, your using windows.
Your comp should reconize the jump as a regular drive. Then it will be
easier to copy the files from it to say your music folder. After that
you can easlily add the files into your WMP with a scan to your libray.

I thank all you people for the posts on this great topic. This is the
exact kind of intrestests that I wanted to spark. Yea. I thought that it
was pretty cool that xerox was really who introduced the GUI, but it was
still based on the Linux code. And yea Gates obtained the code 'legally'
in a sense but not really. He (microsoft) was suppose to be a mac
partner at the time.(That's why the code was shared with him.)
As far as games go, Linux is getting alot better at it to make it
worthwile. Older games work pretty well configured in WINE. As far as
the new very high graphical games, CEDEGA works wonders. (I think that I
spelled that right).
The real reason that people use windows now is that some people think
that they have no choice. I know that you have heard of drms and such,
and it is getting worse. "they" are tring to make it to where you have
to use windows to do average tasks. Ultimately 'they' are the the ones
deciding what progs that you can run on your windows computer. WE ARE
LOSING OUR DIGITAL RIGHTS TO MICROSOFT.

gr8pal thier are many mp3 plugins for multipal front in progs in linux
that are free naturally. KAudioCreator is a pretty good ripper/encoder
that will do MP3 format with the 'plugin'. But the only reason that I
ever encode into mp3 format now adays is when I need alot of songs to
play on an MP3 player. There are much better formats such as OGG, flac,
lame, or wav. Any of these can be burnt (using K3B) to a regular cdr in
cdda format.

Right you are Mass. I posted a link in another post awhile back about
this whole DRM thing. Losing our digital rights. I figured that it would
have gotten more attention than it did. I guess that people won't gripe
untill all of thier rights are gone. By then it will be too late.
