Hey you all, I met a girl online. After our first date she admitted she liked me but confessed she is HIV Positive and has been for 20 years. She thought I would run like many others have. I told her I could deal with it and it has now after 4 weeks turned into a serious relationship. Any thoughts or comments welcomed...

if shes been hiv posotive for 20 years, you are aware things will go down hill and soon it will develop into AIDS.

You can be HIV positive and never gets AIDS

That's my undestanding too. Talk to a medical professional.

Looks like we may be living together soon. She has a 9 year old daughter who has also really taken to me. She has never gotten AIDS and is told by doctors she is a miracle for having it for 20 years...

this is what im saying, if shes had hiv for 20 years, pretty soon it will develop into aids, and then she will die. shes lucky to have not developed aids in 20 years, so be aware that soon it will be aids.
I don't think you are right about this Debbie. I would advise he look into it first hand and get answers rather than here on a bulletin board.

Go ask a doctor in the field.

this is what doctors told me when i worked with them. but yes he should see a doctor for information.

Yes it is true that she may never get aids. Her T cell count stays high because of meds she takes. She is very healthy and just may stay that way but of course there are no guarantees..

iff hiv doesnt kill them or a related disease to hiv, it will at some point develop into AIDS. if it didnt they would live until they were 80 or longer, and that doesnt happen with hiv patients.

Debbie you are so wrong with your comments.

All people with and without HIV/AIDS will die, but thats not to say those will HIV will die due to HIV per se.

People without any diseases die all the time before they reach 80 yrs of age.

This man is happy, be happy for him, dont try and rain on his parade. Share your advice, info and let it go... please

We all agree go talk to someone in the field to understand the current state of HIV/AIDS.

Q. Can I become infected with HIV by shaking hands with, kissing, eating the same food as, or being sneezed or coughed on by someone who has HIV? Can I get HIV from a toilet seat? Or by being bitten by an infected mosquito? Or from a swimming pool?
No. This is because HIV is not an airborne, water-borne or food-borne virus. HIV can be passed from one person to another only when people exchange blood or sexual fluids (like semen or vaginal secretions). HIV cannot survive for very long outside of the human body. So you can't get HIV by having ordinary social contact with an infected person.

Q. How long can people with HIV survive?
There is no answer this question. It is true that with antiretroviral therapy, people living with HIV have had a significant decrease in HIV related illnesses and an increase in survival. Some individuals have already been alive over 20 years with the virus. And many people with HIV die from causes unrelated to their HIV.
How HIV will affect a person's life span in the future is unknown. As humans continue to learn more about HIV, the lifespan of those infected with HIV will continue to increase.
