I’ve been chasing romance that’s been over at length
I should give it up, but I don’t have the strength
The memories haunt me, they pervade my dreams
But nothing is ever what at first it seems
I cling to a notion of true love for me
And my mind has confirmed that it’s not meant to be
But my heart won’t accept that it does not exist
It hides from the truth while it’s deep in the mist
It won’t dare to look at the facts plain as day
If it does, it will die and just wither away
So it clings to the notion that love is still real
It refuses to break, so it won’t have to heal
I don’t know how long I can protect my heart
When the truth finally dawns, it will just break apart
And so I continue to think I am wanted
If I really believe it, my dreams won’t be haunted
But the truth trickles in, just like acid it burns
The mind understands, but the heart never learns
