I wouldn't dislike someone that wanted to ban books.... but I wouldn't want them having any authority over me.

I don't know the facts on Palin and this topic, but yes, banning books is a scary thing to me.

What can I say...

Just because she wanted to ban books?

Decency prevents me from saying what I'd really like to say.

Oh well...

I guess I shouldn't worry so much about Palin wanting to ban books when there are a whole lot of people walking around that clearly never read books.

Yeah, I gotta question the list. All the reports I have seen indicate there was no "list", and there's no indication that any books were ever actually banned. But I'm still more than a little bothered that she would even make the inquiry.

I looked this up. From what I read, she didn't name books and she didn't go through with the banning. Back then she claimed to do it as a test of loyalty. Not too sure about that, what I am sure of is that it was in 1996 and none of those Harry Potter books you mentioned were written yet.

"Sarah said to Mary Ellen, ’What would your response be if I asked you to remove some books from the collection?" Kilkenny said.

"I was shocked. Mary Ellen sat up straight and said something along the line of, ’The books in the Wasilla Library collection were selected on the basis of national selection criteria for libraries of this size, and I would absolutely resist all efforts to ban books.’"

Palin didn’t mention specific books at that meeting, Kilkenny said.

Palin herself, questioned at the time, called her inquiries rhetorical and simply part of a policy discussion with a department head "about understanding and following administration agendas," according to the Frontiersman article."
