Do any of you ever, while peacefully driving down the interstate, all of
a sudden think, "Oh, my God! That station wagon sandwiched in-between
those two semis (one hauling Tyson chickens and the other Exxon
gasoline, premium unleaded), is going to try to pass up the
chicken-hauling semi then realize, too late, that he can't do it, swerve
to get out of its way, oversteer into the semi, causing it to careen
into the guardrail, then swerve back in front of the chicken-hauling
truck, causing IT to swerve into the gas tanker, causing the gas tanker
to explode into flames shooting 40 miles into the air, and the
chicken-hauling truck driver, not able to see because of the billowing
black smoke, loses control of the chicken-hauling truck, causing it to
flip over, end-to-end, sending chickens sprawling out all over the
interstate, thereby causing a massive pileup that will no doubt be on
the 6 o'lock news later that night?"

Any of you ever get those thoughts?

Duchess..

ME? I don't have those thoughts. Those kind of thoughts never even occur
to me. I just wondered if you all did.

(All joking aside, truth be told, I have suffered, off and on, for 30
years with a malfunctioning autonomic nervous system. Not fun to be
sitting there minding your own business and your heart rate go through
the roof for no specific reason. Fortunately, I've eliminated the panic
attacks and the anxiety to a MAJOR degree by encompassing dietary and
lifestyle changes, as well as nutritional supplements, etc.)

And having said that, driving is actually an activity (for me, at least)
in which I've NEVER had a problem with anxiety. I think this is in part
due to the fact that my mind is concentrating on the traffic, rather
than on any inward "symptoms" I might be feeling. There are very few
traffic situations that cause any level of anxiety for me...except being
stuck in traffic...and then, I'm not really "anxious," I'm just pissed.

And...just a little Anxiety 101 FYI...physiological anxiety is a whole
'nother ball of wax from just being a "nervous" type person. In fact, if
I didn't tell you, you'd never know I was a person who had panic attacks
or anxiety.

Most people with an organic anxiety disorder don't react with panicky
behavior like others do in situations where a lot of people would
normally react that way. Why? It's a matter of control. You HAVE control
over that behavior; you don't have control over your nervous system
going haywire.

I get that sensation. And its not just "too much stress and caffine". I
normally commute along the Jersey Turnpike, and everyday there's someone
killed. Plowed by a semi. Flipped over a divider. Spun out at 90mph and
clip another car. Boxes fall off a truck and rain down on cars which
swerve and eat a light-pole.

Add to that 747s that skim overhead at 100mph (truely 200' above the
ground), and ppl trying to go 100mph in 65mph "congestion" - yeah, I got
panic attacks.

Oh, Jersey? Hell, I'd get that sensation just LIVING in Jersey.

hehe:tongue:
