This just came to my attention, in an email from a friend.

Apparently the standard procedure for paramedics at the scene is to examine a victim's cell phone for an I.C.E. number.
If you have more than one person whom is an emergency contact, then you would have their numbers listed as I.C.E.1, I.C.E.2, such as one for your personal physician and one for your spouse, and so forth.
This enables emergency personnel to know at a glance whom to contact, rather than going thru the dozens or hundreds of numbers in your phone.

I do not know if this procedure is for real, or if it is somebody's attempt to make it a reality.

Anyone?

My cell phone gives me the option of listing 3 emergency numbers. They appear in red on my contact list.

i have seen this else where

listed as 911 numbers

so i listed mine as 911 (or something that looks like a 1)

and they list first in phonebook

not sure if it is actually a fact they will use them

but better to have and not need

than need and not have
