"Elvis' Christmas Album" turned 51 years old this year?

The movie "White Christmas" celebrates birthday #54.

The movie "It's A Wonderful Life" turns 62.

The original movie of "Miracle On 34th Street" turns 61.

The story of "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" turns 51, and the animated TV special turns 42.

"A Charlie Brown Christmas" reaches birthday number 43.

Any ideas as to why these classics are still so popular today?

They all have the simplest of messages about hope and giving. I'm a sap for the holidays.

Christmas is a chance to gather with family, and time to teach children about giving.

Too bad it's not that way with everyone.

Here's another one:

The best (IMO) movie version of "A Christmas Carol", the British version starring Alastair Sim, came out in 1951!

Most people choose to ignore that the origins of a form of Christmas were Pagan & celebrated in Europe long before anyone there had heard of Jesus Christ.

Essentially Christmas is the absorbed Pagan holiday of Yule. In ancient Babylon, the feast of the Son of Isis (Goddess of Nature) was celebrated on December 25. Raucous partying, gluttonous eating and drinking, and gift-giving were traditions of this feast.

Goes to show that it's a universal holiday, regardless of what it's called flowerforyou

And, I think I read somewhere that Jesus was not actually born in December but as a major celebration already took place then, it was a convenient time to celebrate it and became tradition. flowerforyou

I'm probably going to really regret saying that, so let me qualify the above statement by saying I am not trying to start a religious debate, the bible fact or fiction debate or anything else. Just saying that as a curious aside to the above. flowerforyou

Yes I wasnt trying to start any disagreements. Just that since the topic was related to Christmas and tradition, I felt it only pertinent to actually give the holiday the full credit it is due.

I think JC was supposed to be born in September? I'd have to look that up. Some anthropologists believe that if he truly existed, that was most likely the month of his birth.

Yule is very similar to Christmas although it has nothing to do with the birth of Christ of course. However the Christians simply adapted the holiday and changed very little about it except the reason it was happening, the birth of the Messiah.

Christmas to me has a very different meaning to me in the last say 10 years. I do not like it anymore, soley because of the way my x treated me during the holidays. It is the spirit of giving, right? Wrong! With her it is the receiving that is important. If I got her something that was from my heart, she would say something like "That wasn't on my list!! I don't want it!!" You know what I say about X-mas now? BAH! HUMBUG!

You need to just celebrate Yule then. Come over to the dark Pagan side. Bwahahahah.

Yeah, that's right. Let someone else dictate how you feel about something and live in the past.
