a break is a nice way to say i have found someone else...

i would do it, but i wouldn't have any hopes of the "break" ever ending...

At that point, what difference would it make... the cat's already out of the bag... sure would put a damper on things if you didn't take a break.

i would be hurt a little but if that is what they needed to figure out what is going on and where things are going i'd be willing so long as we set guidelines of sorts such as are we seeing anyone else during said break or are we still together just spending time apart for a little while

You took my comment, robert! laugh

If he asked me for a break .. I'd give him a choice of either his nose or manhood.

If you/her feel like a break is needed, then you/her are not ready for a life time commitment. Cut your losses, and move on! whoa

"taking a break" is just a cowards way of telling you they no longer want you.

as for the instances where it is legitimate...well what are the odds of that??

The other party saying "he/she needs a break" ranks up there with "but we can still be friends you know..."- it's politically-correct chick-speak for "your ass is dumped."

Regardless, your goose is cooked if either phrases come up and you're better off just moving on to someone else.

I think the interaction before the question might influence my response to such a question.

Sure my heart might take a major skip because that is a question that often preludes trouble.

HOWEVER questions are a form of communication and maybe all they are doing is thinking about the idea and want your opinion on it. Or your protestations about it. Yes that is insecurity and maybe even immaturity but in a society where almost any kind of relationship seems to go maybe they are wondering about what your boundries are.

Somehow resorting to physical abuse doesn't say much for the relationship. Or ones self value if they are that upset at the possible loss of a single relationship in their life. Somehow no relationship is worth me acting like a lunatic.

Would I tolerate that kind of arrangement? No way on either count.

If they don't want to be with me just say so, not try to make it sound like something else.
