here's my thing... and, it could just be me...

When one uses a childs pic for thier main profile photo.

I come in random, and find a pic like that up in a sex thread.

Ummm... just too wierd.

As for folks sharing... as parents. I see no big deal, other than I KNOW
there are folks whom have to leave thier kids alone sometimes without
thought. And,if I knwo it, so do the sick ass preditors.
And,I also know of online preditors. I helped with one on messenger 5
yrs ago.

Just want folks to be careful

i could leave my children unattended every single day of the week...and
not a single one of the people on this site could find them. i'd be
much more concerned about the people in my neighborhood...

however, what DOES concern me...children that are allowed on the
internet without supervision or parental controls. the kids don't get
it that they can't give out personal information...personal story to
follow:

a little twelve-year-old here, the daughter of the police chief...was
talking in a CHRISTIAN CHAT-ROOM to what she thought was a teenage boy.
she gave out said personal info, and he showed up at her house,
kidnapped her...tied her to the floor of his van, raped her, tortured
her...when the police found him, he was holed up in a storage unit, and
he shot her before killing himself.

i work with this child's aunt...and THIS kind of thing is what worries
ME, the thought that my kids could be telling complete strangers where
we live.

I know you're very aware of the issues, Lulu..

omg, yes!

The first time I allowed my daughter into yahoo kids chat?

adults everywhere! It was the last time, too.

She was smart, and typed MOO to anyone asking questions... but, it was
too much, and we shut it down.

Also, just for folks to keep in mind, there or trolls and lurkers from
near where you are...

yes, the folks in your towns.

just be careful, aware, and never think it can't happen.

But all these things can happen without cyber.
I was 5 years of age, there was no internet at that time,
and the man who did it to me was the then partner of my
grandmother.

oh, absolutely!

Same here, was family, and trusted people... some strangers...

The only thing I have to say is this....it is a major turn off to see
someone with a child on their profile and post on a thread that says
something like....would you have sex with the person above you?
Now I see this thread and then I see a childs photo?? UMMM what is wrong
with this?? Heres my opinion...change your picture or post on the nice
threads!!

well for me i think the "will you have sex with the person above you"
thread is immature. I stay away from those kinds of threads. I
personally dont see any fun in it so i stay away.

I agree with you Pucks...I just don't post on those kinds of
threads...but to each their own!!!
UMMM it is your right to post on any thread you want, but I just posted
my opinion...to me, it just doesn't look good to see a childs picture on
those nasty threads.
Oh ps~~I do know that you have to have sex to have a child...I have 2
myself:wink:

I am not a parent but I would think twice before posting a picture of a
child I love on the net anywhere .
1. You hear all the time about psychos becoming obsessed w/people in
general that they dont know and hunting them down . Dont be naive to
think it never happens .
2. How do you know what everyone who sees these pics are thinking some
perv might be getting his jollys off looking at a pic of your kid . Sure
you or your child isnt effected directly by this but do you even like
the thought ?

Pucks

does the mother of your children have your permission to have the pics
up, and do you have your kids permission to have the pics up?

Wierd, and maybe senseless question, but I'm curious.

they can become obsessed with my kids' pics all they want...what can
they do about it? there's absolutely no way they can find them, period.
short of literally coming through my screen, my kids are safe.

i NEVER give out my address, nor any way to find it...and i regularly
use proxies, as well.

and truthfully? if someone wants to jack to their pics, THEY are the
sick ones...and i could care less, as long as he isn't telling me about
it. it's not touching my family in any way.

also, i have sole custody of my kids, so the decision to post or not is
mine, and mine alone. if it made my children uncomfortable, i would
remove them...but they are proud to see that mama puts their pics up.

No dates have ever met my lil britches and I am not comfortable
introducing them for at least 3-6 months. The only one who has met my
child I knew for three years. He is also very active in special needs
events thru special olympics and respected my wishes to wait to meet my
child. The outcome? My boy turned into DEMON CHILD with the jealous
green monster attitude. Too funny!!!laugh laugh laugh laugh

personally now, looking at what all of what some of the actual parents
had to say, I think I change my mind about the pic thing.
I imagined myself as a parent, and ya know, I'd probably do the same
thing. Well, at least until they were in middle school, but hey, thats
just my thing. LOL.

BTW, just so ya'll know, I'm really sorry if I came off as judgmental,
or if I seemed like i was calling you a bad parent, because i would
never do that EVER. unless I knew them personally, and trust me I do
know some BAD parents. (the kind you call child services about)

SOOOOO
in conclusion:
Bless you and your kin.
And a safe, loving journey for your kids.

Hey Autumn_queen...

Nope i have not asked my 5 yr old if i have her permission to put her
picture up. I dont think she has the cognitive ability really to make a
informed decision at that age. in fact, children do not start making
cognitive thoughtful decisions until the age of 9-10. Then they start to
use common sense slowly as they age.

As for my 10yr. She is aware of it and she loves it. We are close and
love to share our pictures together. i would much rather have a picture
of my daughter(s) and i together then just one of myself. Personal
choice i guess.

As for the so called pervs...Yup i am aware they are out there. So what!
i cannot control what idiots do to get there turn ons. I agree with what
Lulu says...what harm can come of it. Are they going to come thru the
computer screen lol. I too dont give out my address or any personal
information. Its just common sense. Dates do not meet my kids and i am
probably one of the most careful dads out there.

i dont see anything wrong with it.many people want to show who they are
and for most of us a big part of who we are is our kids....as far as
sickos go most will be a family member or a close friend or anyone close
like a coach, cub scout leader,ect..and not limited to male or female.

i have my daughters pictures up in my profile i dont see what the big
deal is? I am not trying to sell her as a sex symbol. she is my baby and
i am damn proud of her and if i or any other parent wants to post thier
kids pics up. What is it of any ones concern? Not like i am harming her
in any kind of way. Just like when ppl post pics of thier animals is
someone gonna start complaing about that too? People need to start
worrying about the big stuff in life and not about what pics ppl have in
thier profiles. So am i a bad person for having my daugghters pic in my
profile. And if ppl think i am then so be it

(((((((((((((((((((((((((AUMTUMNLEE)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

i agree with you there is no harm in having the pics up... Like I said
I remind myself that there isno harm when I DO get a thought in my head.
But I think wht that original post meant was those that go into a chat
looking to talk dirty and basically cuber along, and they have a post of
them with their kid right there with them on that particular chat. At
last that is how I took it.
