You are lost like everyone else but everyone's different in their own way, I haven't been living the right path but yet God is trying to get with me still.

The Bible is what you personally make out of it.

For some it is a book of fairy tales and for others it is truly the basic instructions before leaving Earth.

One thing we know for sure is that everyone has a different opinion on it.

That '... one can learn from ...', if one so chooses,

and,

... NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY.

That is what I get out of your comment, and I respect and salute that personal and legitimate context in which you cultivate your personal faith and beliefs.

In spite of the fact that the bible means little to me, I can assure you that I would defend your personal and legitimate right to your beliefs to the contrary.

I have to agree with Voil here.

What we can 'learn' from the bible is extremely subjective.

When I read the moral teachings of Jesus I just shake my head in agreement. It's hard to say that I've actually learned something from someone who holds the same moral values that I already have.

As for the rest of the book, many of the lessons that it offers I am not interested in learning.

For example, one of the biggest lessons that is taught throughout the Bible is that violence is the divine solution to most problems.

Personally I disagree with that. I'm not about accept that as a valuable lesson. On the contrary I reject many of the behaviors that have been attributed to the 'Heavenly Father' as being valuable lessons.

I would never treat my children the way that the "Heavenly Father" treated his.

A great example of this is that I would never tell my children that if they sacrifice the family dog I will forgive their bad behavior.

I personally feel that such an act would not be 'fatherly' at all. Instead I would teach my children to pet the dog, eat their vegetables, and do positive constructive things to make up for their bad behaviors.

In short, I truly deounce many of the so-called 'lessons' that are taught in the Bible as being inhumane and not even effective.

In fact, the Bible has shown that these fatherly lesson were not effective at all. The God of the Bible has failed miserably to teach his children any sense of morality.

He became so distraught and frustrated that he had finally had his only begotten son nailed to a pole to pay for the disobedience of his mortal children because he gave up on their ability to be learn anything.

Clearly the Bible is a story of a failed fatherly image.

If it has any lesson at all it's a lesson of how not to teach your childern.

Now as a lesson on how not to be a good parent it migth be pulizer prize material.

A "How-NOT to be a Good Parent Guide.

Then it might be of some use.

Okay, I will rephrase. I have learned a lot from reading the Bible. I didn't mean to imply that anyone else should read it. Sorry.

I have also learned a lot from many other books as well. I am an avid reader.
