I don't particularly like going to the doctor. However, the majority of the ones I have seen throughout the years were kind and hard working.

I know I sure as hell am not willing to spend that many years going to school to listen to people whine about what hurts!

I grew up in a hospital... and a doctor's office.

My father is a pediatrician. He had his own practice for thirty years. He opened his office on weekends and holidays to see sick patients when he was on call. He worked late twice a week so working parents could come in with their kids without taking time off work. He gave away diapers and formula he paid for with his own money to patients having money problems. I'd see him crying after we left the hospital if one of his patients was truly ill or dying.

He left his practice to work at a charity hospital clinic with mostly hispanic patients. He took Spanish classes, bought books, and learned to cook many local dishes. He talks about them with such love and affection, and is as excited about this as any other part of his career. He is 65.

So no, I have to disagree. Even my own physicians over the years have mostly been kind, compassionate, and caring.

I will say I'm very sorry to hear you've had bad experiences.

Thanks, Queene. I have a wonderful father. As a child I resented him a bit, actually. I feel good doctors give up a part of their soul and cannot live in balance with family life.... but he did his best. As an adult and a parent I appreciate him ten times more. flowerforyou

I don't agree. I like the doctors I have now. Also, my cousin is a doctor and is definitely not in it for the money.

I go to the Doctors once a year for a complete physical. Other then that you won't see me there. But the prior doctors I had first I had to request certain things to make a complete physical. I knew what the results were of the physicals we discussed them. And if there was anything that needed to be done. Which there wasn't YET like clock work they wanted follow up appointments every month? why is that? if its not about generating income? these same DR's I had to ask "oh well how did the ekg look" or the x rays? and even the blood work. Their routines became complacent of check your heart beat, pulse temp, say hi and how are you doing. and good bye. It took me 5 years to find a good DR. I am not saying that all Dr's are like that but lately? I remember (dating myself here) like Littih's Dad maybe. of actually doing a home visit.. Its a shame that our society has become so time managed.

I have spent the last 20 yrs in healthcare, the last 8 yrs in the OR. The overwhelming majority of the Docs I have worked with are truly concerned with the patient.

lilith, it seems like your father is a kind and caring man. He was a dr. because he was concerned about people not the money. Too bad there aren't more like him. May God bless him for his generosity.

I have also seen horrific care within the VA system with the care of our Veterans. It's a shame.

But, for the most part in my experience, civilian doctors are pretty ok.

I've seen the same. The doctors are told what they can and cannot do, ranging from medications to diagnostically. This is just how it is. It in no way absolves their behavior.

I have found that most doctors decrease/increase meds without knowing what will happen to said patient. Guess who finds out what a psychotic person goes through and has to deal with it when the docs decrease their happy pills???slaphead noway
