what is this knee-jerk reaction about gun rights here? they aren't gonna change gun rights because of this incident, I always hear after every violence "oh no, they gonna take our guns away". We're talking about a terrible event here, and all i see is people start derailing the whole thing about guns. Nobody even mentioned any anti-gun statements.

here's another update

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – A gunman opened fire on a room where immigrants were taking a citizenship exam in downtown Binghamton on Friday, killing as many as 13 people before committing suicide, officials said.

Gov. David Paterson said at a news conference that 12 or 13 people had been killed. The suspected gunman carried identification with the name of 42-year-old Jiverly Voong of nearby Johnson City, N.Y., a law enforcement official said.

The suspect's body was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an office of the American Civic Association building, said the official, who was not authorized to speak publicly and was talking on condition of anonymity.

The gunman barricaded the rear door of the building with his car before entering through the front door, firing his weapon, the official said.

The gunman had recently been let go from IBM in Johnson City, said Rep. Maurice Hinchey, whose district includes Binghamton. The gunman opened fire on a citizenship class, he said.

look at the track record of the recent violences: \

March 2009: A gunman kills a total of 11 people in a series of shootings southern Alabama

Dec 2008: A gunman dressed as Santa Claus kills nine people and himself on Christmas Eve in LA

Sept 2008: Six people die in a series of shootings in the north-west of Washington state

June 2008: A worker at a plastics plant in Kentucky kills five people before killing himself

Apr 2007: 32 people and the gunman die at the Virginia Tech campus

and this argument is supposed to sway me (a gun toter) one way or another?

None of these events do I take lightly - all are horrible events, crimes committed by people/person toting guns not the other way around.

Just where in the hell did i say "oh no, the guns" Geez!

I have a gun myself, what is this gun schizophrenia going on ??

then why go to the gun range wink

This sort of thing doesn't help gun rights...

I think she meant this sort of thing as in what happened today.

maybe but you know what would have helped gun rights would have been if someone would have been carrying and blew the sucker away after the first victim

Yep,
Now that would have HELPED gun right, but you know damn well how some will view this. They will say if that guy didn't have that gun, blabla.. That is what I meant, sorry for not being more clear. I don't want anyone taking my guns because one idiot takes out others.

i would guess it wass me

you know me me me me me me

those injured should go after the gov for not adequately defending them as the govt infringes on their right to defend themselves

may be the line that may have brought that on

-----------------------------------------------------------

i wonder how often this kind of thing would happen if the shooter walked in and saw a gun in the possession of even 1/2 of the occupants of the area

i bet this type of thing would be very rare (when only the outlaws have guns expect the behavior of outlaws to be outside the law)

February, 2008 - Seven people were shot at a City Council meeting in Kirkwood, Missouri - a St. Louis suburb.

Six people died, including the gunman, and Kirkwood’s mayor, who was shot in the head, was in critical condition. He did survive. The victims include two Kirkwood police officers, two members of the Kirkwood City Council, and Kirkwood’s Public Works Director.

That is 20 minutes from me.
