I guess I'd have to say maybe. I mean if he totally let himself go like stopped showering, brushing teeth etc, I'd definately have to say something. If it was just a bit of weight, I'd have no room to talk

No. I did not fall in love with them for how they looked. My sexual attraction might fade or wane or change, but them again they could buff up and I could be all over them....

But the love remains the same.

time affects us all. There is no escape, we are constantly evolving into some thing.
Just imagine if we all stood the same, like plastic.
Now thats a scary tought.
Love is accepting the changes.

I'm with Lilith on this one. The looks attracted us, hopefully they love who we are and not what we look like. That said, I do think it is very important to stay in shape and be attractive for your partner. Makes the sex better and keeps the juices flowin so to speak.

Looks never mattered
You should see what the dragon looked like when I met herlaugh
These days she looks like the twin sister of Mrs. Doubtfire.rofl

Any way looks are nothing. Some of my ex girlfriends were very ordinary girls but what made them so special was how they made themselves be desirable. Pity that things didn't work out but you never know what is round the corner.flowerforyou

is this what I have to look forward to? hope not.. But I accept who ever it is that will be my so as they are. Change happens. Its a matter of what they do with that change? For myself. I like to stay as healthy and fit as possible , refusing to become some old man who is overweight and un pleaseing to the eye. ..( at least of the things I can control).

Nah, I figure how bad can she let herself go in 3 months anyway?

I agree. I mean, if they let themselves go out out pure laziness, then yes that could be a deal breaker if they aren't willing to improve.

But if it's just age and time causing the wear and tear, then no, I'd accept them for what they have become. It happens to all of us, whether we want to or not. ohwell

If looks became a "deal breaker" after you have already have fallen in love with them, then you really don't love them at all.

this i can agree with.

i understand that people generally let themselves go over time. and in 10, 20, 30 years the person before you is rarely the person you fell in love with, at least physically. but it is important to remain attracted to the other person.

the real question is how do you let the other person know that they're losing your interest and that they need to take steps to get it back without hurting them?

It's called respectful communication. Talking... a healthy relationship includes effective communication. You should be able to tell your mate anything.

For those that say it's not, if your spouse gains let's say 400lbs or more, stops bathing and taking care of themselves hygienically, you'd be able to stay in love with them?

I don't think I could.

Looks fade over a matter of time that's why I would never base anything on looks. I go for personality and a big heart...so if you love someone for their looks, good luck flowerforyou
