WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama declared on tax-filing day that he aims to take the dread out of deadline day. Obama said at a White House event Wednesday that he's working toward "a simpler tax code that rewards work and the pursuit of the American dream."

"For too long, we've seen taxes used as a wedge to scare people into supporting policies that increased the burden on working people instead of helping them live their dreams," Obama said. "That has to change, and that's the work that we've begun."

Obama also met at the White House with several working families to mark April 15 — known notoriously as file-or-else day — and underscore his efforts to make the tax code more fair and less complex.

He noted April 15 "isn't exactly everyone's favorite date on the calendar." But Obama said the day is a reminder to leaders in Washington that they have a responsibility to the people who elected them.

The president noted that he's asked his economic advisers to thoroughly review how to simplify the tax code and report back to him by year's end.

"We need to simplify a monstrous tax code that is far too complicated for most Americans to understand, but just complicated enough for the insiders who know how to game the system," Obama said.

He added: "It will take time to undo the damage of years of carve-outs and loopholes. But I want every American to know that we will rewrite the tax code so that it puts your interests over any special interest. And we will make it quicker, easier, and less expensive for you to file a return, so that April 15 is not a date that is approached with dread each year."

This is a good thing no? Does it not show the man is listening? Or do we just hate his guts for everything I wonder. Sure seems like it lately, in fact it scares me to even come into Mingle these days. So many people angry and ready to fight anything that moves.

Just not today noway slaphead

Throw the dogs a bone to chew on before they figure out that wages are not taxable income regardless what they want you to believe. The law was never radified in Congress and the 16th amendment says "no new tax" without it.

Good job BHO, that will hold em for a while!

Promise tax breaks, that'll shut em up! (we didn't leave em much anyway by the time we got done with the bailouts)

I paid my Federal taxes because it's hard to fight from jail. I believe there should be a tax if it benefits the people, not for paying the interest on a national debt we didn't create.

BTW Boo, freedom of speech is not "attacking everything that moves"... it's simply voicing an opinion. The choice of what you choose to believe/disbelieve or agree/disagree with, is still yours alone.

I, and many others, fought to assure you and us that right.

Aren't you generalizing people? What you are basically saying, that anyone who disagrees certain steps the government makes nowadays "must hate Obama's guts" ?

I posted it to counter the belief that we are all "right wing extremists" as Homeland Security define those who dare to criticize the current administration. I posted it as good step from the administration.
Now you wonder, if Obama would have made this step of there aren't protests today about the Tax.

I wish you guys would stop reading this INTO my posts.

Where did I say that freedom of speech was a problem here? The tone is what scares me. The fact that some who want only for Obama to fail would use this to their advantage to stir up the country.

Obama suggestion in the OP is somehow a way to shut people up? You know that for a fact? It seems to me that some people are out to make sure this president fails.

It seems that no matter what this president does or does not do, there are groups ready and raring to make it an issue.
I have no problem in fact with what people are protesting about, what I am disturbed about are those that would use the economy to further their own agendas to make matters worse.

I think it's dangerous NOT to question our government, and our religions and corporations etc etc. I have no problem with that.

Actually I am quite sick of this whole right wing left wing extremist thing, there are extremists everywhere and they are what worries me. Extremists don't often listen well, and can make matters far worse than they actually are.

Again I worry about the tone, the anger in peoples words that cause extremists to get even more extreme.

I hope the protests are civil and nonviolent. I hope that this administration takes it seriously and addresses the concerns. Please don't assume that I am against anyone. I am against violence, and against political interests using this to 'cause' failure for their own purposes.

I am not against what people are protesting for, it's their rigth and I am the last person to want to see that taken away.

Keep it up Willing. This type of post is exactly what keeps the anger fueled. It serves no purpose but to add to the anger. I am suprised that you wouldn't know that at your age.

There's no need to attack or accuse.
We all, for the time being, have every right to our opinion.
And like the man said, some of us actually fought for you to be able to dis us.

Boo, Please understand that I was not insulting or criticizing your post in any negative way. I was only commenting about your fears of signing on to mingle because of all the unrest and comments against present affairs.

Never think I would make an issue personal, I would never intentionaly do so. My point was to say "don't ever let that stop you from coming here" only.

Please forgive my unclarity

Same here. Neither like McCain or matter effect any of the presidential candidates. I liked 2 guys. Dr. Ron Paul from the republicans and Dennis Kucinich. The rest were less than desirable.

Just as you accuse liberals of being pacified and using pictures to enforce your opinion, expect I might find that childish of a man your age.
