I also take into account for quality as well. Sometimes, if something is made so cheap it isn't actually cost savings. I also tend to do a lot of pricing comparing with the other retailer in my neighborhood.

In these times? your kidding its been a god send for some. Sure they stuff they have is cheaper made and sold, And sure you can get better quality at other places. Not everyone with kids or large families can afford the "gap".. I will say That I usually do not buy my vegitables from wal mart. I can get better quailty at the local grocery store. And as for meats I shop at a little Mom and Pop place with in 2 miles of me. The best meats at really low prices... NY Strip steaks $3.59 a lb.. as an example.

But I digress. sure they have some practices that I don't agree with, but they are doing better with them in the last couple of years . Especially with the employees.

Evil empire. Check out a documentary called "Wal-Mart: the High Cost of Low Prices" It made me hate Wal-Mart (as if I already didn't) and the Walton family.

I avoid it whenever possible, but still can't help but to shop there sometimes.

Shshshssh I'm a Walmart addict love it I can go to one store and get anything from grocery, dog food, house hold stuff to paint & gardening stuff all in one stop.

Myself I hate to go shopping but now at Walmart I can go one place and get everything I need without going to 15 different stores. shshsshsh

The Gap buys from the same child labor, commie sweat shops as Wal-Mart.
The Gap even owns a few.

I'm alright with it. I don't normally choose to shop there but will if necessary. My daughetr, when a baby, would SCREAM when we went in there - it's as though they were piping music in that made children miserable laugh

Since it managed to destroy the smaller competitors and now becoming "the only place to buy stuff", since there is nothing else out there, smaller businesses can't afford to sell their products with such a discount. I'm against all these huge outlets, like Home Depot and Walmart.. what happened to the good old relationship between customers and sellers, on the one-on-one face-to-face stuff, that's why I like smaller stores. I had friendly relationships with many smaller stores I used to buy stuff, they'd give me big discounts for being a loyal customer and help me out with many things and even invite me to parties.

I avoid Wal-Mart like the plague.

Usually the store is dirty, as in dirty floors, overflowing trash cans by the entrance. The merchandise is stocked on shelving way too high. I have been in a Wal-Mart when a shelf has collapsed and helped dig through to see if anyone was trapped/buried. There have been several lawsuits regarding this. Wide isles are stocked with merchandise on pallets, making the the isles narrow and difficult to navigate.

Predatory practices, lets say I make pencils and Wal-mart has decided to stock my pencils. I need 10 packets of my pencils for each store,
941 regular Wal-mart stores and 2,447 Super Wal-marts=33,880 packages of pencils. Great I am in the big time now. Granted I don't make a lot of money on each package of pencils I sell, but I am selling an incredible number of pencils. Next year Wal-mart says, I need to cut my cost to them by %3 if I want them to continue buying my pencils.
Did MY costs go down? Did I pay my employees %3 less, cost of my materials go down?
Probably not. I either cut my cost to Wal-Mart or stop selling them pencils.
They are also known for taking a product, going to China with it and having a manufacturer copy it, and then sell it for less.

Humm michiganman3 not sure where your walmart is but the one by my house is spotless as can be have never had a problem with the employees there or the way the store looks. Now if it was nasty I would hit the 15 different places I needed to go first. I guess the different stores in different states may be taken care of differently.

The stores in Lakewood, Colorado, Denver, Colorado, Traverse City Michigan.
I understand this is only my experience with Wal-Mart. I do occasionally shop there, and rarely is it a pleasant experience.
Plenty of other people shop there.
I feel the same way about K-mart too.
Target and Mejiers are my favorites.

Completely EVIL!!!!

I'd rather spend a few more dollars to get something which will last a hell of a lot longer. Anything you buy there is cheao junk and made in China which probably has some kind of posion in it, particulary childrens stuff.
