I was out the back smoking when etiquette101 was happening.

I do as I wish, and am comfortable with others doing as they wish... do I respond to ALL mail? nope.

Do I HAVE to? Nope.

DO I want to? You can't make me if I dont wanna!

 laugh

I know!! She never answers mine!!!sad sad sad sad

I just try to be nice to the guy but if he can't get the message then its blocking time.

It's based on how the person writes the message. If it's a nice message where they show interest, then I'll reply with a nice rejection. But if it's a message where the person is disrespectfully trying to get with me, then I wouldn't send a message.

I agree.. Someone sends me an email that says "hey sexy" and that's it, I don't respond at all.. If they make an attempt and conversation being nice I respond with a "thank you"...

If someone emails you and expresses interest in you, and you do not share that interest, do you think it's nicer to send a reply email and nicely tell them that or is it better just not to respond?

I have seen several male profiles saying that they think it is rude for someone not to respond to an email they have sent. But if it were me, I think I'd rather get NO response than a rejection.

What's the proper etiquette in this situation?

While it WOULD be much more civil to send a short email explaining why things probably wouldn't work out, the prevailing tactic here is to simply not reply. Yeah, it sucks (and is awfully rude), but everybody does it.

if someone wasn't interested, i'd be fine with no response. i'd like a "not interested" response only if she gave some constructive criticism with it, such as, "no thanks, you're too ugly for my taste". i could use that to make improvements. of course some people would just get depressed about it. ha.

Hmmm....this is kind of a tough one. Some of the emails I receive are written almost like form letters and maybe the sender has sent out 50 or more, who knows. I do not want to be rude but if I receive an email that sounds like a form letter I figure they will never even miss if I do not respond.

Sounds good in theory, but after a few times of getting rude or nasty replies back from one nice reply, you just give up and send nothing.

It is a personal choice.

For me, it feels rude not to reply. They are the same human being whether behind a keyboard or in line behind me at the grocery store. I respond the same way.

(she doesn't smoke) tongue2

I smoke occassionally! laugh

I will generally send a message back, especially if they made a genuine effort to send a nice email.

Those that have been perving me for months, tried to add me as a friend without emailing first, or added to favorite without contact, well those may be blocked before I even read an email.

hhhmmm.... jess' theory about smoking and ettiquette might just have some backing laugh
