PETA Wants Wienermobile Buried With Oscar Mayer
Group Says Unhealthy Advertising Gimmick Should Be Put to Rest

MADISON, Wis. July 9, 2009 - With the passing Monday of Oscar Mayer's retired chair Oscar G. Mayer, PETA has sent a letter to Nick Meriggioli, president of Oscar Mayer, urging him to bury the company's Wienermobile along with Mayer.

"For years, the Wienermobile has been driving kids toward a meat-laden diet that can increase the risk of making them fat and sick," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "The best thing that parents can do for their kids, for the animals who are raised for food, and for the environment is to stock up on delicious, eco-friendly veggie dogs and burgers and bid farewell to the Wienermobile for good."

For more information, please visit PETA.org.

PETA's letter to Nick Meriggioli follows.

July 9, 2009

Nick Meriggioli
President
Oscar Mayer
Kraft Foods, Inc.

Dear Mr. Meriggioli,

We send our condolences on the death of Oscar Mayer's retired chair, Oscar G. Mayer. As we all know, laying someone to rest can be an occasion to examine a life as well as an opportunity to send a positive message.

The Wienermobile travels around the country and entices children to try Oscar Mayer meats that can set them on the road to developing life-threatening illnesses. For example, you are likely aware of Harvard researchers' findings that children who frequently eat cured meats like bacon and hot dogs are at a much higher risk of developing leukemia, while kids who eat more vegetables and soy actually have a reduced risk. And, according to the American Dietetic Association and the Dietitians of Canada, vegetarians are less prone to heart disease, certain types of cancer, diabetes, and obesity than meat-eaters are.

Children are naturally fond of animals and are shocked when they learn about the pain and misery that pigs, cows, and chickens suffer in the process of being turned into wieners and other flesh foods sold by your company. People who know pigs compare them to dogs because they are friendly, loyal, fun-loving and intelligent. Pigs are also naturally very clean -- they avoid, if at all possible, soiling their living areas, an impossibility on factory farms, where they are forced to live amid their own waste. Pigs killed for Oscar Mayer hot dogs and bologna have their tails and testicles cut off without any painkillers. They are trucked through all weather extremes to slaughterhouses, where many pigs are immersed in tanks of scalding-hot water while still conscious.

Please do the right thing for children and animals. Seize this moment to bury the Wienermobile along with Mr. Mayer -- and perhaps go a step further by creating a new line of family- and animal-friendly Oscar Mayer products, such as "phony baloney" and veggie dogs. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Tracy Reiman
Executive Vice President

And have animals run amok? We're at the top of the food chain for a reason. If the Lord didn't want animals to be eaten, he:
#1. Wouldn't have made them out of meat, and
#2. Wouldn't have made them so damn tasty.

What came first...the animals running a muck or our insatiable appetite for meat? The animals are mass produced to keep up with the demand to eat them.
I'm a vegetarian and I have never felt better, My boys eat meat and I buy it for them, it was a personal choice for me that has worked out well.

Honestly, what kind of people get offended by the sight of a hot dog rolling around on wheels? "the weinermobile has been driving kids towards a meat-laden diet"... really? It was my understanding that the parents bought the food their kids eat. If you can't look at a giant plastic hot dog on wheels without craving one, then perhaps vegetarianism isn't right for you. Don't drag your kids in it to garner a sympathetic vote. What a bunch of basterds.

Someone needs to tell PETA the animals they are protecting are being eaten by other animals they are protecting. Animal slaughter isn't only done with human mouths. I'd like to see them hold up a protest sign in front of a Grizzly.laugh

"Come on now bear, ssstop it right now!"

Ya know. The funny thing is..PETA could actually be a very useful group. I mean, the some of the things they protest are actually worthwhile.

The problem is, they always, ALWAYS manage to take things WAY too far and consequently remove any credibility they may have gained in worthwhile protests.

I think PETA's president is named Gertrude something or other or something like that. When she dies, she want's her friends to turn her liver into pate and eat it, grill her flesh and eat it and use her skin for leather or a lamp shade....this woman is a sicko and she's found mental infants who have no hope of ever finding happiness in life to join her.

It's my belief that people like her should be institutionalized, given a Lobotomy followed everyday by an enema. Hopefully this woman and her closest retards have not been able to breed and hopefully they all carry Plutonium key chains. I'm not against people keeping an eye on the welfare of animals, simply because animals have no control over where they are kept. I do however take great issue with people who go into Laboratories and release Lab animals they no nothing about. I though it was Ironic, sad and slightly funny in how things played out when a group of animal rights activists set free a Lab full of Chinchilla's and the Furry critters ran out into the Highway.

I don't believe that companies use animals for testing perfume, hairspray or anything that people use daily anymore, at least not in the United States, maybe Venezuela but not here. as for using them to try new medical procedures I'm all for it simply because the outcry of using Murderer's, Rapists and Kid toucher's is far too strong.

peta is a group of domestic terrorists. they use terror tactics and practice violent criminal behavior, they should be treated like the terrorists they are. to protest and stand up for what you believe is admirable, but trespass, and assault cannot be condoned.
