Golf?

Billiards?
POKER?!?
Boccie?
Curling? ( isn't his just another version of Boccie?)
Racing? (Note, Not foot or cycle, I mean any MOTORIZED racing)

And secondly Would professional "Wrestlers" be considered athletes even though they state that they are not in a sport but in the entertainment business?

Golf? hit the ball in one hole?
Table tennis? slap that ball?
Billiards? stick that thing were?
POKER?!? Lay them strait!
Boccie? Keep on Roll'n Roll'n
Curling? Pump it baby cakes....
Racing? Faster, faster your all most home!
Duck, Duck, goose?

Golf?

I would ask if you have ever played, if you haven't then play a round, you will have an appreciation for it after you play a round.

Table tennis?

Have you watched how it is played in the Olympics? Sure I'll give you that at home it's a game and not a sport, but with how those guys play it at the Olympics, it is a sport.

Billiards?

There is a skill set, especially in the trick shots, but I'll give you this on.
POKER?!?

I'll give you this one too

Boccie?

This one too

Curling?

Since it involves a big f-ing rock, brooms, and being on ice in shoes, I'd say it is a sport.
Racing? (Note, Not foot or cycle, I mean any MOTORIZED racing)

Considering the G-forces they have to deal with, and the physical shape you have to be in, it is very much a sport.

And secondly Would professional "Wrestlers" be considered athletes even though they state that they are not in a sport but in the entertainment business?

While the outcomes are scripted, it still takes a lot of training to do what they do, so I do think that they deserve the Athlete tag..

Beachy,

If golf (with golf carts and those guys that hold your cubs) is a sport, does that make target shooting a sport? I see them as very similar... not very aerobic, not requiring a ton of strength, but taking a lot of skill and concentration, and being competitive.

Hmm....unless you happen to have quite a lot of money, 99% of the golf courses don't have caddies to carry your clubs for you.

Now...an average golf course where I live is around 6500 yards.

Not using a motorized cart, walking, using a pushcart for your clubs, that translates into 3.6 miles of walking. Many courses have hills as well. 3.6 miles...up and down hills.

And that's only if you actually hit the ball straight. If you hit it off to one side or the other, you add even more distance to it.

Are you going to try to convince me that a 3.6 mile walk isn't an aerobic workout???

Also keep in mind that the average golfer shoots between 110 and 130 on a par 72 course.

Let's say once you make it to the green you 3 putt every time. That takes 54 strokes over 18 holes.

That still leaves between 60 and 80 full swings of the golf clubs.

Are you going to say that's not a workout as well?? Hands, forearms, shoulders and back ALL get a workout from doing that.

walking over 3 and a half miles, swinging a club that weighs between 2 and 5 pounds 60 to 80 times...that's not a workout??

i still think its baseballnoway ohwell rofl

Go try to hit a round object WITH a round object when the first object is coming at you at somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 miles per hour.

If you don't break your wrists when you do, consider yourself lucky.

If you can, and hit the ball over 400 feet, or even out of the infield, then walk up to a Major League Baseball player and let them know that what they do isn't a sport.

have fun with that.

i used to play baseball..and i would agree that it is a sport but i think cause whoever was trying to be cocky about the dictionary definition..which was just stupid. cause now a days everything has its own meaning. but unless right when the ball is coming at you as a hitter or when your on defense and its hit to you..its not much of a sport. i used to play right field. and a team didnt have a left handed batter and i didnt get a single hit my way i stood out there, and did nothing, and than i sat on the bench till it was my turn to hit..or i would just get a coule hits a game if people werent pushing it to the opposite field.

and as for your amazing thing that must be hard..i can hit a 90mph fastball with rotation on it, and hit it over 400. what would be harder is if you can hit a sinker or a curve or slider and hit it over 400 smart guy...eventually a ball coming straight at you at the same speed, your going to get it. just a matter of the odd's. but a slower pitch with movement. thats 10 times harder to hit, and hit with power. the faster the ball is going the more its going to react off the bat.why do you think fastballs are the ones hit for homeruns the most?

the only exception is home run derby. 50 mph. but than they get to wind up like they never could in a game cause it takes to long. look at prince fielder this go around. he was almost falling over every swing cause he was putting so much into it

Ok. I'll give you that one. The law of averages would make you figure that eventually you would get one.

But keep in mind that very, VERY few Major league pitchers have a fastball that goes 90-95mph but goes straight.

A guy makes it to the majors, in part, because there is movement on their fastball.

The point remains the same. People who have not tried it, should not be the ones making the claims that such and such isn't a sport.

The same goes for golf. If someone hasn't actually played 18 holes, without using a motorized cart, then they really don't have much right to determine that it's not a sport.

agreed, Ive played baseball, not golf though.

baseball: as farmboy stated sometimes you can start without playing. Id still have to say no for baseball even though it was not mentioned as being sport/or not by the op.

golf: sport, consistent movement throughout, although id have to pass on having a caddy thoughnoway

Ummm..I'm not " old ", dude.

I play golf because I enjoy the challenge of it coming down to the ball and the course versus me.

My golf bag weighs, with clubs, balls, water ( there is a built in cooler in my bag ) and the other miscellaneous stuff I have in there ), around 40 pounds.

I use a pushcart because my back simply wouldn't stand for the abuse of carrying that weight for 18 holes.

If poker is ever concerned a sport then could Dungeons & Dragons be a sport?
