I just spent 2 and a half hours pulling 47 carrots out of my garden..
I always plant extra so I can share. This year I wanted more so I could take some fresh vegetables to the food banks, guess they don't get fresh food, just packaged. Do you know how hard it is to get carrots out of the ground without breaking them? Glad to share but I think I got carried away this time. Someone needs to create a tool for this.

47 carrots!! Seriously, what are you going to do with so many carrots??? If food banks don't take fresh food, what about soup kitchens? Must be one at a local church or 'Y' - somewhere near you...

I have never pulled carrots but take your word on it being a hard job!

I used to take one of those hand cultivators and run up and down beside the rows prior to pulling them...

I have also used a small gardening shovel to put in beside them...it brings up some excess soil, which is easily put back...

Great act of kindness!! I would bet even the broken ones would be welcome!

Yea for YOU!!!

It's terribly hard! I did it last year. I broke a few. laugh
I hated digging those things out!

I think it's great that you donated them to the food pantry! flowers

I used to volunteer at one. They need all the food that they can get.

Dirty trick to pulling carrots. Take a small hand spade. Stab it straight into the ground about two inches from the carrot and break the soil up. Do not just yank straight up. Tug at it a couple of times. If it moves a inch or so up and down pull straight up. If not break the soil up more with the hand spade.

happy

A tool for pulling carrots...hmmm...I'm on it. It's on my list right below the toilet seat foot pedal.
