I very rarely if ever cuss and can't remember the last time I used the "F" one. It was something that wasn't even a big deal for me with my family they didn't care if I said it or not, I just prefer to express myself with other words. Do not like hearing it used all the time either makes my ears burns bigsmile

Ironically, now that I joined this site, I swear FAR less than I did on a previous site. Still ain't used to it...but, got tired of the suspension thing.

To me, swearing is simply part of the vocabulary of modern society. Think about it...no one bats an eye if you say "HOLY S**T!"...but, if some retard uses a phrase like "GOLLY GEE!" every last one of us would look at them like a throwback mongoloid.

As far as assigning intellectual inferiority to those who swear....I and many others have a well rounded venacular and simply chose to swear as part of our common conversations. For many people it is simply ingrained to the point that they don't even realize when they swear....condemning them for it would be like me looking down at people who have that stupid yankee accent that drives me up the wall instead of a southern drawl like normal people have....they can't help it! (that is supposed to be a humorous analogy so, don't none of you damned yankees get booty hurt)

WE have a solution back where I come from
Effin hell= bloody hell not too bad but allows venting
if Bloody hell is too much we say bloody Nora don't ask me why we just do
if we want to be terribly polite and still vent how about Gordon Bennett you say that to the tune of effing hell
problem solved?

My major concern with the rampant use of the F word and the C word and the A, B, D, E, G, H... Z words is: what's next?

If swear words become a part of normal speach, what would somebody do in a situation when he wants to swear? he can do nothing, since all swear words will be elevated in class to being not swear words.

Imagine a man hitting his thumb unexpectedly to him with a hammer. Or a real estate sales woman becoming aware rather suddenly that she's missing a showing. Or a doctor who realizes he's sewn his own thumb to the wound of the patient after an open heart surgery. Or a lawyer who is appointed by his firm to launch a class action suit against Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Bugs Bunny, and the Energizer Bunny AND the appointed lawyer's stockbroker got him the previous day to buy heavily into the gift manufacturing sector.

What will these people say? Germans say Himmeldonnerwetter (heaven blitz weather) and they say "Schweinhund" (pork dog). They had probably walked down the route some time ago that the English speaking word is walking now. I hope it won't be a swearword in English in the near future (between now and when I die) to say "aunt'sbigmisfortuneteller" or "mortgagepreparatoryinventorycosts".

My mom always told me that you sound a lot more ignorant when you curse...and that if you talk like a man you will get treated like a man. Act and talk like a lasy and you get treated like a lady.

A few people said they wouldn't use bad language if their Grandma was around. What about someone else's Grandma or nieces, etc? What IS the point of using foul language? I thought swearing was for when you drop an anvil on your foot or your football team runs the wrong way for a touchdown or better yet when you can't do anything with your hair! Oh, and Krupa...you are a doll but I use golly gee and whoopsy-daisy words. and some others too.

I think new words will be made to replace the old. I'm not a fan of hearing swear words all the time, occasionally is fine but when it's used every other word it just sounds cras.

It's all about judgement and the environment you're in. If you're in prison then swear every third word. If you're having a party with the guys poker or football, then swear every 5th word. If you're spending an intimate moment with your lady then keeep it to only one curse word per sentence.laugh laugh laugh

I have a potty mouth...to me they are words..There are many things people do that bother me more than swearing. I know when it's not appropriate to use such language. Like everything there is a time and a place..

See, that's what I agree with. If the cursing adds to the effect of getting your point across, then maybe it's warranted. Use the 7 dirty words cleverly and you'll look witty and smart. However if you use curse words excessively and try to sound cool, you only screw yourself, and ostracize yourself from society.
