But... I thought you owned a PC ?

Seriously, regular crashed have been the norm with MS products, and the programs that run on top of them; I'm guessing you've had things crash on you before, they just didn't go out of their way to tell you about it, the way firefox did.

Firefox has gone to hell in a hand basket. I used to like it but it has gotten too slow, too many updates and plugins, and now it started trying to shove Yahoo search tool bar in my face and hiding my google toolbar.

No damn browser is going to tell me what search engine to use. I un-installed it and got google chrome. Its really really fast.

I have an older version of Firefox, it's a little quirky at times but a huge improvement from IE

Actually IE is my second back up browser and it is doing better than firefox now since it's upgrades. I still prefer google chrome as my default though.

When I started using Firefox about a month ago, it was faster then IE. Now it's ssssssllllllllllooooooooooooow. I stopped using IE because I can't use the chat feature in Yahoo anymore. I don't know why. The chat just won't load.

I think everyone should give firefox, chrome, and opera a test drive. I'm using chrome right now, and most of the time its amazingly fast.

I'm a big firefox fan as well, but recently mine has been doing the same thing. I wasn't positive it was the actual browser as I am using my mom's old computer (mine died), but maybe it is. It does seem to be not as stable as it used to be.

I found firefox to run slower the more add-ons/extensions I was using.

There could have been an issue before you turned your computer off, so once you turned it on again it crashes. Best thing to do is disable plugins, one at a time, and clear ALL of your history in everything!

Then try it..start enabling add-ons and see if you have anymore problems. Also be sure to update the add-ons by "checking for updates"... If it continuously crashes, you might need to uninstall, wipe the file completely and re-install.

Yep, it was almost ten times faster than firefox when I quit firefox. I was about to go crazy waiting for firefox to even open!

Shortly after reading this topic I stumbled across a firefox optimizer:

http://www.ixibo.com/2009/02/firefox-ultimate-optimizer-2009/

I have never used it, can't vouch for it, but there it is for those who want to give it a try.

I wouldn't recommend downloading that..I have never heard of that and i've been an avid FF user for years! Comments are saying it's most likely malware, which attempts to download other malware or trojans onto your computer.

I take that back, do NOT download it. I did some research and found it featured on the Kaspersky forum, which is one of the BEST Antivirus programs around....It says it is not a trojan, but it is an advertising tool, see here:

"ptimizer.exe_ - not-a-virus:AdWare.Win32.FireOptimizer.b

This file is an Advertizing Tool, it is detected by
extended databases set. See more info about
extended databases here: http://www.kaspersky.com/extraavupdates

Please quote all when answering.

so, it's bad, don't use it etc."

See forum here: http://forum.kaspersky.com/lofiversion/index.php/t51946.html

As long as the add-on is located at the Mozilla Add-ons website and has been featured in a Highly reputable blog or website, than I'd say go for it. But doing a google search I am not finding it on any reputable site but Ghacks, and even they don't know if it's legitimate. Please don't download it. lol.

Mo,

Thank you so much for looking into that - its too late for me to 'edit' my post, otherwise I would remove it.

NOT because I think its dangerous, but because its semi-spam, and I hate spam.

Oh, thank goodness that it wasn't just me. I thought it was my computer.

I could move around a tiny bit on here but not everywhere. I couldn't post or email. I couldn't look at anything else online either.

Firefox kept telling me that I didn't have a connection and to try again.

This is the first time that I've ever had a problem with Firefox.

Today..it's all good.
