TULSA, OK -- A man died after setting himself on fire during a stand-off with Tulsa law enforcement in the 14100 block of East Apache. According to the Tulsa County Sheriff's Department, a parole and probation deputy went to serve a felony arrest warrant to Johnnie J. Hobbs, a convicted child molester.

Hobbs barricaded himself inside a van at about 3 p.m. Thursday.

"He poured some kind of flammable liquid in the floor of the van and set it on fire," said Chief Deputy Tim Albin with TCSO.

The officers called in the Tulsa Fire Department, and the fire in the van burned out on its own, Albin said.

"We did a tactical approach to the van, got the doors opened and discovered the subject's body inside the van," he said.

Hobbs, 47, has several convictions for lewd molestaton, lewd or indecent proposals/acts with a child and showing obscene materials to a minor.

"I guess he didn't want to go back to prison," the chief deputy said.

Tulsa County Sheriff's Office deputies and Tulsa Police are still investigating at this time.

"We've never had anyone suicide-out by fire," Albin said. "This is unique.

Well that's a good way of saving our tax dollars. Previously convicted only to be set free and do the same thing over.

One less disgusting bastard walking our streets hurting little children.

Too bad more criminals can't take the route this guy did.If I was a judge and I had solid evidence(such as DNA and video)linking a killer to the victim I would escort him from the court right into the gas chamber on the same day.Enough of giving these guys 20 plus years on death row.

Burning to death is easy....the frame of mind one would be in to set themself on fire, I can't even imagine. Seems he wanted to punish himself, torture himself for the terribe things he had done.

i think we should be allowed to set those kind of people on fire

I would expect nothing less from youlaugh waving

I could think of other things that could be done to them but justice is usually served in prison if the weak judges don't let them off easy.
Thank goodness for Jessica's Law!

Yes really, talk about save us a heck of a lot of our tax dollars. Same day sounds good enough for me. These kinds of people are disgusting and are parasites of our society. Parasites destroy their host, these children are their host. They are the scum of the earth right along there with murderers and rapists. Society has no use for them but the way our justice system works, and certain judges, these people eventually get back on the streets only to do it again. frustrated

Only to live and get out of prison again and destroy another child's life. How many children does a person like this have to destroy before something is done. Suicide is not good, but what he did, over and over, I have no pity for him. My pity lies with these poor babies whose lives are now destroyed because of what he did.

It sure is a great way to save our kids and our tax dollars. Why waste MORE of our hard earned tax dollars just to have another trial and feed this bastard in jail? He deserved what he got and he did it to himself. He apparently didn't want to go back to prison, maybe he had been raped in prison for what he did, if so did that stop him? no. One less piece of scum on the face of this good earth.

Huh?We are not to judge other humans???I suppose we should just throw out the entire court system because we have a Judge and Jury that judges people? What are we suppose to do when someone commits a crime?Let them go?That kind of thinking is absurd. You can take the bible or your next door neighbor and both will agree that evil and evil people either need to be eliminated or converted.Letting evil run wild in our streets in not acceptable and never has since the begining of time.

I'm not sure if you have been a victim of violent crime but I have. And once you have, you look at life a lot different and have no sympathy for anyone on the wrong side of the law.As far as I am concerned all those child molesters, terrorist, murders, and other scum of the earth deserve to be strung up on a pole and let the family members of the victims have their way with them.

I'm sorry to tell you that freddy is a fictional character. Unless you can back up your evidence, I looked it up. Nothing, nada. Look it up yourself. That is not a movie based on a true story, especially that story.

I am so sick of the bible coming up as a justification for hatred...read your scriptures about NOT judging others. Your statement is half true..once you have been a victim of violent crime you DO look at life a lot different. I HAVE been a victim of violent crime and I have more sympathy, empathy and compassion for others than most people...
I'm more concerned about stupid running wild in our streets than I am evil!!

Does no one else see that this man was punishing himself by doing this...?
if he just wanted to die he could have charged the cops, pretended he was pulling out a weapon, they would have just shot him. A person would have to loathe them self to set them self on fire...it is beyond suicide.
