As of the new year, those who recieve Social Security will recieve no COLA (cost of living adjustment). I would like to thank The Obama Administration for bailing out the banks, the car companies and Wall Street while all the while forgeting the elderly and the disabled. This is 'change' we can believe in. be seeing you

I've heard rumblings about it,but I just read an article from The AP. First time there hasn't been a COLA since 1975. There is something seriously wrong in Washington, when 'they' start to throw the elderly and the disabled under the bus. be seeing you

No Cola? 7-UP?

I'm a federal employee and we didn't recieve cola. But then they base ours according to the economy, surprised they didn't try to take money from us.

I'm not comlpaining about that. But I do think it's horrible to do that to the elderly and disabled on a FIXED income. Heck if I need to I can get a second job to make ends meet or makes some cuts in my extravogant lifestyle I live.

I'm gonna have to do some looking but didn't congress just vote themselves a raise not long ago?

Actually, I believe they base this increase on inflation rates. This last year had no such increase so there was no increase to benefits. Nothing to do with Obama folks.

Here is more on the SSI COLA

"The Social Security Act specifies a formula for determining each COLA. In general, a COLA is equal to the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) from the third quarter of one year to the third quarter of the next. If there is no increase, there is no COLA"

"Because there is no increase in the CPI-W from the third quarter of 2008 through the third quarter of 2009, there is no COLA."

but since there was no cost of living increase (and Medicare deductions WILL increase) Obama is approving a one time $250 payment to SS recepients

If you examine the history of The Third Reich, one of the first groups they exterminated was the 'disabled'. If a government thought that one group cost to much to take care of,'financial genocide' could be used to eliminate them. think be seeing you

This will make some mad but---if you look, you can see the parallel between many things that happend in germany in the 30' and 40's and our times. Uthanasia of the old and sick comes to mind. It's being debated in many States ETC. Keep up the good work my friend--like your posts.

I don't live in the past, and I am very careful never to repeat mistakes, that's probably why I am not suffering as badly as others in this economy. I can't control what others do or don't do, but I can be careful not to spread negativity that solves nothing.

Doesn't make me mad, just sad that there are so many unhappy people out there, that seem to be more focused on the past than the present. I don't share the paranoia of many in our country right now.

It's not paranoia if you know the past and try to prevent things from happening again.

Looking forward with no recolection of consiquences of the past is a train wreck in the makings.
