You all should go watch "The invention of Lying".....It has a symbolic meaning similar to all the threads in this topic..."about following your own"...plus it's a funny move :P

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.

Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed
down for many generations.

Do not believe anything because it is spoken and rumored by many.

Do not believe in anything simply because it is written in
your religious books.

Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.

But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conclusive to the good and benefit of and all, then accept it and live up to it.

Rely not on the teachers, but on the teaching.
Rely not on the words of the teaching, but on the spirit of the words.
Rely not on theory, but on experience

The Buddha

Glad I am not part of that religion.Sounds like something Micheal moore would say.

Now, if folks actually followed that thought! :-)

Those who do generally remain in the shadows, both by choice and by force.

Its not the believing what someone else says that seems the problem, but NOT being a believer because someone tells you not to.

Especially in ones self.

I don't agree with either scenario. You should belive in yourself and what you feel. You shouldn't believe or disbelieve just on someone elses say so.

I think each person has to search for and find their own truth. It does not rely on a religion, but on a personal belief, understanding and "knowing".

All the more reason to help that child believe in himself. I would have tried my best to be there for that child as I have with so many other children. After I was raped several times, I decided that no child would go through that pain alone. I will always be there if I am needed, even if it's just to have someone to talk to. If you give in and follow something just because someone told you to, then you are headed down a road of never thinking for yourself.

What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: Our life is the creation of our mind.

I believe everything

I believe that Jesus was the sacrificial lamb for the sins of man

I believe that Mohammed was the prophet and brought the word of God

I believe that Siddhartha achieved enlightenment and became the Buddha

I believe that Shiva is the creator and destroyer

I believe in the Earth Mother and the Green Man

God is like the sun. If you look at the sun you'll go blind

but you can see a reflection of God in any old mud puddle

Religion is like a mud puddle
