Noir (noun): crime fiction featuring hard-boiled cynical characters and bleak sleazy settings

Noir is my absolute favorite genre of film and literature (writing my own right now). Here are a couple of films that I recommend anyone who likes the genre to see. Feel free to add your own as well. Angel Heart -1987- Mickey Rourke Payback -1999- Mel Gibson (also was a film by the name of The Grifters) Dark Passage- 1947- Humphrey Bogart The Usual Suspects -1995- Gabriel Byrne Seven -1995- Brad Pitt Those are just a couple that come to mind at the moment, enjoy! |

Payback was a brilliant film. It was Gibson's last great leading role (IMO).

LA Confidential- I would put this movie in this class too. Execellent cast with Spacey, Crowe and an underrated Guy Pearce. |

Confidential, i've seen it at least 20 times. love it. here's a couple more good ones: Croupier- a british film starring Clive Owen, who plays a croupier (card dealer) as he tries to get enough inspiration for a novel he is writing. I'll Sleep When I'm Dead- another british Clive Owen film where he plays an ex gangster who returns to his life of crime after his little brother's death. |
