That is absolutely brilliant.

The government has been underestimating the number of people who are unemployed for a lot of years.

If I recall correctly, wasn't it during the Clinton administration that they changed the way they counted for the unemployment statistics??

No disrespect Jguy.

The only folks who care about any other time aside from the here and now are the ones with jobs or on disability.

Solutions would be nice, if there are any?

It doesn't help either when Hussein and his czars lie about jobs saved or created.

I know they keep saying it's getting better. I can tell you that more people are losing jobs where I live, businesses continue to close and people from all walks of life are unemployed from CEO's to labor workers.

I wonder what will happen to those whose unemployment is about to expire? We continue to see more foreclosures every month. I live in Michigan. Nothing is about to turn the corner. The majority of the builders and contractors I work with have little or no business. A couple years ago, there were eight independent lumber yards. Now there's only two. They can spin it any way they like-the truth is things here are going to get even worse.

I think it depends on what you do. I am in healthcare and have been lucky because it is a necessity.

====================================================================
Ronald Regan did that . He said that if you don't get a job before you run out of benifits you weren't looking and should not be counted . the the lackey demos went along with it . Proving they no longer represent the working people .

Ah. Couldn't remember for sure when the way they counted got changed.

Thanks.

In fairness, I dont know how they COULD account for everyone that is unemployed, just those collecting unemployment.

They can be accounted for by no action on payments made to SSI, Year end income reporting.
The way it's done keeps a favorable light on the Gov.

What about all those construction workers who have never paid taxes.

But...that being the case....then how is it that they can claim to " know " the unemployment rate is 10% right now??

If they can't manage to count everyone that is unemployed, especially those that have run out of benefits, or those that have found work at MUCH lower wage, then they don't " know " jack.

You are correct. Job losses are usually on a delay to be reported except when a person applies for unemployment. Also Foodstamps have some collected data on this for those that apply there.

Jobs where the person doesn't apply for any assistance do not get counted until the employer files quarterly so it can be three months delay on those stats.

What the heck willing was talking makes no sense so I don't know about that.

Now, now, no need to be condescending or attacking posters.

I can understand you wouldn't understand employers pay in SS for employees and how someone who doesn't earn a living wouldn't understand filing income tax every year.

Just trust me, the Gov. can tell by the 0's on the income tax form would mean that person isn't working. SSA also can report any number that is not active in the work force.

Yep! I could have told you that the unemployment figures don't reflect true unemployment.

It only counts those that are collecting unemployment benefits.

So, when I stopped working to go to grad school, it didn't count me, because I couldn't collect unemployment...
because my employment was contingent on being a student at the other university.

Doesn't mean that I am not looking for work.

ohwell

Okay first off I wasn't condesending or insulting but you are.

Taxes are filed by individuals once a year for the most part. So
that would not show except once a year after all data had been collected.

So you are still not accurate.
