Both young and mature ladies I want you opinion. Is marriage the only way you can see commitment. I see a lot of forum comments about commitment & marriage Why isn’t a LTR as a commitment. What is your definition of LTR. Married or living together (with nor without a life time commitment). I've always wanted to be marriage, but since a few states (including mine) allow gay marriages or civil unions, marriage has been. I know marriage sounds more permanent, but with divorce rates so high, it's not so permanent after all. Having a committed
Life Time Relationship, whether living together or maybe separate residences, in my opinion, is just as permanent. At least with me, marriage and LTR's both
are committed relationship. In marriage a lot of couples pre-nup, why not a
pre-co hab?

I still like the idea of marriage, but interference from the state & mocking of it turns me off.

Marriage is not the only way to have a long term ..in my opinion. I have a friend who has been with the same person for 25 years, they never got married, probably won't. They are quite happy...

A long term relationship is just as it sounds... in my opinion... it's a relationship where there is a committment for it for a undefined long period of time... in it there is agreed upon parameters for the relationship. Whether that be living together (or the consideration), monogomy, dating exculsively, etc.

Marriage on the other hand to me is something a little different but falls under part of the long term relationship category. Depending on the beliefs of the individuals coming into it... it's legal, religious, spiritual, whatever... but more so, it's a commmittment that you will spend the rest of your life together. It is not taken as something lightly entered into. However, there are cases where, that marriage must be broken. In one sense, marriage is a contract... and sometimes that contract is broken. And sometimes individuals go into contracts with good intentions, but don't work out all the details... and just sign on the line without reading.

My personal belief is that marriage is deeper step to a relationship than just a long term one.

Well at my age the only thing marriage offers is some security for both mates should one pass, timely or untimely. Possibly the married couples children if any. You know benefits and or wills and all.

pre-nups are insulting to those that are truly in love, it shows a lack of trust and faith and furthermore not what marriage is all about. Marriage is "supposed" to be about "becoming one", not about his is mine and will remain mine. If one feels they need a pre-nup that one ought not marry at all IMO.

LTR to me is one that means I am exclusively seeing one man for all my relationship needs and wants. Love, sex, companionship etc etc. It does NOT however mean I would or want to marry the man. A LTR is still "getting to know you" time for even after a few years have past people can grow apart, discover unattractive things with their partner that will mean the relationship is coming to a halt.

For me LTR does NOT = marriage. Just exclusive.

Well, legally, when you co hab,, your stuff is still your stuff so a pre co hab wouldnt have the same affect as a pre nup. As far as LTR, Id say anything above two uninterrupted years is LTR.

My first answer is long term = I actually let him stay the night.laugh

My real answer is I never intend to get married again, but the idea of falling in love and being with that person for the rest of my days is my idea of commitment.

Marriage is a legally binding contract and provides a feeling of "safety" for some people. There are some couples that feel just as comfortable in a LTR. It is up to the two people involved.
