Christians Urged to Boycott Glenn Beck
By LAURIE GOODSTEIN

"4:51 p.m. | Updated Last week, the conservative broadcaster Glenn Beck called on Christians to leave their churches if they heard any preaching about social or economic justice because, he claimed, those were slogans affiliated with Nazism and Communism.

This week, the Rev. Jim Wallis, a liberal evangelical leader in Washington, D.C., called on Christians to leave Glenn Beck.

“What he has said attacks the very heart of our Christian faith, and Christians should no longer watch his show,” Mr. Wallis, who heads the antipoverty group Sojourners, wrote on his “God’s Politics” blog. “His show should now be in the same category as Howard Stern.”

Mr. Beck, in vilifying churches that promote “social justice,” managed to insult just about every mainline Protestant, Roman Catholic, African-American, Hispanic and Asian congregation in the country — not to mention plenty of evangelical ones."

"This week, the Rev. Jim Wallis, a liberal evangelical leader in Washington, D.C., called on Christians to leave Glenn Beck."

As I am well apprised of true, credible Christian leaders, and NEVER having heard of this jim wallis..........I had to do very little research to realize this man is a goofus from word go.........

From my research, he is a political individual, hiding behind a facade alleging that he is a Christian Evangelist......HE IS A PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL......... pitchfork pitchfork

Jim Wallis Promotes His liberal Agenda and Book at Wheaton College
Published February 28th, 2008 by Editor in Liberalism

In this piece Shane Trammel informs us:

" Several days ago, to our surprise, we found out that Wheaton College had invited leftist, Pro-Homosexual Evangelical Jim Wallis to speak and promote his new book.

In the interest of our readers, we have collected several links that are very informative regarding Wallis and his recent visit to Wheaton. We take the same position as many that Jim Wallis is very liberal in his political and biblical ideologies. The fact that Wallis was able to promote his political agenda to the students of Wheaton without opposition or real dialogue with students is problematic to say the least.

Wallis and his cohort’s have taken liberalism and the social gospel and resurrected it so as to infect a new generation with a false gospel, a false ideology…"

I do surmise that it is adequately safe to say the this individual DOES NOT SPEAK FOR THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY...........noway noway noway noway noway noway noway noway noway noway noway noway noway noway

"Bread for the World, a Christian group devoted to eradicating world hunger, has started a petition to demand that Beck stop spreading "misinformation and fear" through his radio and TV broadcasts.

"Economic and social justice are central to the gospel of Jesus Christ," the petition reads. "Quit using your bully pulpit to spread misinformation and fear by comparing faithful Christians who care 'for the least of these' to Nazis and communists."

The New Evangelical Partnership for the Common Good, a group advocating -- among other things -- nuclear disarmament and responsible environmental policies, has started a campaign to raise money towards a video rebuking Beck's assertion.

"We are launching a campaign to reclaim love of neighbor, especially the least, last, and lost, as an Evangelical Christian value. We believe love is central to everything Jesus taught, and we think Glenn Beck needs to hear about it," the group stated on its Web site.

Beck has been railing against "progressive" churches for some time now. Last December, he said churches where preachers supported health care reform had been "infiltrated" by un-American ideas.

"If you see things that are now being preached about from the puplpit in many churches about health care, warning. Warning. Many churches have been infiltrated with this line of thinking that is absolutely against the freedoms that our founding fathers designed," Beck said."

"We are launching a campaign to reclaim love of neighbor, especially the least, last, and lost, as an Evangelical Christian value. We believe love is central to everything Jesus taught, and we think Glenn Beck needs to hear about it," the group stated on its Web site.

Isn't that the truth. Here's a quote from an article about Beck's past:

Beck and Hattrick began their show far behind Kelly's market-leading show on KZZP. As they continued to get clobbered, Beck grew obsessed with getting his name on the leading station. His first attempt to get Kelly to mention him on the air came shortly after his arrival. "I walked out to get the paper one Saturday morning," remembers Kelly. "When I turned around, I saw that my entire house was covered in Y95 bumper stickers. The windows, the garage doors, the locks -- everything. But I refused to mention Beck's name on the air, which drove him nuts."

Beck kept trying. When KZZP's music director held his marriage at a Phoenix church, Beck loaded up Y95's two Jeeps with boxes of bumper stickers and drove to the ceremony. As the service was coming to a close, Beck and his team ran crouching from car to car, slapping bumper stickers on anything with a fender. The service ended while Beck was running amok, and the KZZP morning team appeared just in time to see Beck jump into his getaway car. "Beck saw me standing in the way of the exit and gunned right for me. I threw a landscaping rock on his windshield and blocked him," says Kelly. When his old friend demanded he roll down the window, Beck reluctantly obliged. Kelly then unloaded a mouthful of spit in his face.

"Glenn Beck was the king of dirty tricks," says Guy Zapoleon, KZZP's program director. "It may seem mild in retrospect, but at the time that wedding prank was nasty and over the line. Beck was always desperate for ratings and attention."

The animosity between Beck and Kelly continued to deepen. When Beck and Hattrick produced a local version of Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" for Halloween -- a recurring motif in Beck's life and career -- Kelly told a local reporter that the bit was a stupid rip-off of a syndicated gag. The slight outraged Beck, who got his revenge with what may rank as one of the cruelest bits in the history of morning radio. "A couple days after Kelly's wife, Terry, had a miscarriage, Beck called her live on the air and says, 'We hear you had a miscarriage,' " remembers Brad Miller, a former Y95 DJ and Clear Channel programmer. "When Terry said, 'Yes,' Beck proceeded to joke about how Bruce [Kelly] apparently can't do anything right -- about he can't even have a baby."

"It was low class," says Miller, now president of Open Stream Broadcasting. "There are certain places you just don't go."

"Beck turned Y95 into a guerrilla station," says Kelly. "It was an example of the zoo thing getting out of control. It became just about pissing people off, part of the culture shift that gave us 'Jackass.'" Among those who were appalled by Beck's prank call was Beck's own wife, Claire, who had been friends with Kelly's wife since the two worked together at WPGC.

Oh, I can hear it already: "He was young, he made a few mistakes", yada, yada, yada. Well yanno, there are plenty of decent people who never make these kinds of mistakes, who don't become addicted to illegal drugs and get strung out on booze and naked ambition. It's beyond me why some people think these Lost Boys are somehow Golden Boys after they say a few mea culpas. If their moral compasses were as attuned to What is Right as they claim, they never would have strayed so far off course in the first place.

I have read several articles about this story.I don't agree with Mr beck as the whole purpose of Christianity is to more less help people live a better,happier life who may be struggling.There is a lot of dark ares in the reference to Social justice and Social programs which lets face it could have thousands of different meanings.

From the interview...

"Like most Americans, Glenn strongly supports and believes in 'social justice' when it is defined as 'good Christian charity,'"

I think Mr beck needs to be more clear about what he is talking about.I can see where he is coming from though as someone who is Christian and also into politics.I can site the Gay agenda and how they have more less hijacked the Christian churches to ignore the bible and to force pastors and priests to accept their lifestyle like it or not,morally wrong or not.

If Mr beck is talking about how the churches are caving in due to the Political correctness and throwing away the bible that are devastating the churches and Christianity today all in the name of "Social justice" then I agree with him.I know I won't support any of the Episcopal Church's in America as they not only accept the homosexual lifestyle the embrace and bless it.If the Christian churches in America continue down this road then there will be no reason to support them.

Interesting debate and will be anxious to hear more from Mr beck and what exactly he is talking about.

GLENN BECK SAID:

“I beg you, look for the words 'social justice' or 'economic justice' on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words. Now, am I advising people to leave their church? Yes!"

Of course Beck's flock will come to his defense..try to spin it around the "gay agenda" hot button words...no, Beck didn't specify "social justice" to that one topic...and what of the "economic justice" explaination?

~~~
BTW, did anyone see the Eric Massa interview? OUCH...
(Beck put Vicks rub under his eyes to make him tear up for the above pic...as well as the pic on the first post. What an arsehole)
I am not defending Mr Beck.I have no problem boycotting other Christians and Christian organizations by what they are saying including Mr Beck.In all honesty I have never even heard the words "Social justice" and "Economic justice".Politics and Religion do not mix with with each other and are always complicated.I would like him to give another interview concerning what he is talking about.
Anyone have the video interview?You tube does not have it and the ABC link is dead.
I dont care for Beck, but in fairness, I would like to see the quote in context and not just one or two lines. Sometimes, the context of how something is said makes a big difference.
God has a set of laws which he said these are the laws man must live by and YOU well live in heaven with him . But in all religions man puts his own words in there . GOD HAS TOLD MAN IT IS YOUR CHOICE TO OBEY THEM OR NOT He did not tell anyone to make the choice for any one else . When you stand before god you have to tell him why you couldn't live with his rules , it had better be a good reason . like the guy was trying to murder you or maybe your family . but if you say it was because he [god ] said that you shouldn't do this so he killed him for not obeying gods law then you are in trouble .
