Do you think pastors should really bring licensed firearms to church?

Why not as long as he passes a mental fitness test. It's unfortunate that protecting one's flock means one may need to use an arsenal in order to do so.

Better to have a gun and not need to use it rather than not have a gun and need to use it.

The thought that comes to my mind is. All the the things that Jesus went through, and all the people that were out to do him harm, did He once carry a weapon to protect Himself?

Church is the place where we communicate to God, its not a battle ground

I can see only one legitimate reason for this... and that is that the church is under regular attack and needs to be defended. Honestly, though, that should fall as a duty to the police. Therefore this should never be required.

Church is a place to be closer to God, I agree. However, the pastor is 'A shepherd to the flock'. He has a duty to help guide and protect.

So, if the gun was needed to protect the members of the church... yes. Is that likely? No, it is very very unlikely.

I feel it is wrong for anyone to bring a firearm to church. For one, is not the time nor the place for need of a weapon. I see alot of people saying it would be ok for self defence. But that is wrong, what does the bible tell us to do if someone even just hits us? Says to turn the other cheek. Same would go with even a weapon. Self defence absolutely does not justify any harmful action. Weapons should be use purely just for hunting. Any other reason would be sinful.

As I have always been told. "The word is mightier than the sword.

You have all made some good points this topic often arises when it comes to fighting wars.As Christians we should of course avoid violence and killing. However the bible is very clear that we should also not stretch out our necks and allow our enemies to slaughter us in mass numbers. It was never Gods or Jesus's plan for us to stand around and let other people take advantage of us.Yes we should turn the other cheek but what is more important?Turning the other cheek or stopping the murder of innocent people. It is our duty as Christians to stop evil from progressing first by peaceful means but as a last resort by killing another person. There is no doubt that had we not fought Hitler he would have taken over the world killing hundreds of millions of people. This clearly is not Gods will and I do not think we were wrong as Christians killing Germans to prevent future murder.

Furthermore God killed millions of people and said he was justified in doing so because they were evil.He also used people like Moses to also kill evil people. You can say what you want about the Old testament but Jesus himself said he did not come to change the laws. You can ponder these bible verses and take them for what they are worth.

John 18

Jesus answered, "My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn't be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here."

Matthew 10:34) - "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35"For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household."

Luke 22:36) - "And He said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it along, likewise also a bag, and let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one."

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. [Matthew 5:17-18]

Exodus 22:2 “If a thief is caught breaking in and is struck so that he dies, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed.”
