An Ohio family recently learned their 6-year-old daughter was on the Department of Homeland Security’s 'no-fly' list, Fox8.com reported.

Alyssa Thomas, 6, was traveling with her parents when a ticket agent notified the family she was on the list of restricted fliers.

"We were, like, puzzled," said her father, Dr. Santhosh Thomas. "I'm like, well, she's kinda six-years-old and this is not something that should be typical."

When the family tried to clear up the issue with Homeland Security, they received a letter notifying them that it could not be changed.

"She's been flying since she was two-months old, so that has not been an issue," said Dr. Thomas. "In fact, we had traveled to Mexico in February and there were no issues at that time."

Transportation Security Administration told Fox8.com that Alyssa never had any problems before because the "Secure Flight Program" just went into effect in June for all domestic flights.

“The watch lists are an important layer of security to prevent individuals with known or suspected ties to terrorism from flying,” a TSA spokesman told Fox8.com.

The Thomas family plans to make another appeal to Homeland Security.

it's kind of funny how the government can say who can fly or not fly in a public transportation without everyone screaming racism or racial profiling, but the minute our police ask if someone is legal to here in our country all hell breaks loose... seems like a double standard...

It's always a double standard with Democrats.

how is that a double standard,, one is a list of NAMES which are supposedly compiled by actual information about those names on the list

and the other is requiring an officer to interrogate a person that they have NO information about,,,,,based upon some unknown criteria(which could indeed be racial)

the "unknown" criteria is in the state of texas, illegals cannot have a drivers license. so if a cop pulls some one over and they have no dl, no insurance, no id... he shouldn't ask them if they belong in this country? who's rights are being violated?

they are, i agree... but i don't see what's the reasoning to put a child on the no fly list, unless her parents are up to something... and it didn't mention weather they could fly or not.

Yes they can and have at that age committed suicide attacks, but never from inside the US. This girls clearly not a terrorist or associate of terrorists if she would her parents would be on the list too.

You know if they keep those six (and under) off of flights, the rest of us would enjoy them more.

they should absolutely have to produce the SAME documents anyone else has to submit,,, if you are saying to me , that IF a driver does not have a drivers license, they will be asked to prove their legal status(regardless of their race) , I would say it isnt profiling

my understanding was that passengers would also be conditioned to be 'suspected' of being illegal,,,, and last I checked passengers arent required to carry identification or be detained for not having it

What does that have to do with her being on the no fly list?
