Is man as brutual as nature, or is nature more brutual? I do enjoy watching the nature shows on PBS, but I see a lot of violence and brutuality, much like with humans. I've seen where lions have killed other animals simply to make a statement, much like people kill each other just to make a statement.

Tonight, I saw one of my fish kill another because it was sick. The poor thing was so ill, it could not even escape from the attacking fish, which would push him into the side of the tank until he bled internaly, killing him.

So, are humans really worse than animals, or is it just nature?

Well technically, humans are mammals, thus classified in the animal kingdom. I know that a lot of animals kill ill members of the species. Survival of the fittist or whatever. A lot of males kill their sons and other males to ensure their genes survive. Nature is definitely cruel sometimes.

Nature flows with a natural order. The animals and such go on instinct to survive..there's a food chain. I see my cat eat a bird, a dog chases my cat...
We're supposed to be the top of the food chain, the intelligent life form but look what we've done to the planet and to each other for greed and power..no doubt in my mind which is more brutal.

Well, as superior as we are, we are no different from the animals who act on instinct. The only difference is that we are concious about it, animals are just doing what nature has programmed them to do. Well, basically.

The thing we have that sets humans apart is a conscience. We are supposed to know the difference between right and wrong: helping each other = right, killing another for no reason = wrong. Some people do it anyway, so in my opinion it is humans who are more brutal.

Perhaps, but if animals had the same conscience, I don't think they would stop.

I've can't say that I've ever seen one fish pull out a doctor's bag to help another. I'm pretty sure the fish was doing what it could to put the other out of it's misery.

You know I read in the bible once. "God is to man as man is to animals" I wonder if God ever asks the same question you just did.

I'm not trying to turn this religious at all. I just wrote something that popped in my head. That I believe and just wondered. Too each their own my friends.

An example of what I meant is in my thread I posted this afternoon about my cousin's husband. The thread is called "Senseless"....

The lady makes a valid point. The smarter we think we are the dumber we become.

Interesting, I think I may have heard or read that too, sounds kinda familiar.

Sorry, but there are plenty of documented cases of animals helping each other. When Elephants Weep by Jeffrey M. Masson does an excellent job of putting a bunch of these stories together. One of my favorites he mentions is a group of elephants who dig out a baby rhino from a mud pit.

Humans are by far more brutal. Whether other species would be if they evolved to the point we have is almost a moot point, considering we are notorious for killing the smart ones off.

typical human ego thinking they are superior, not probrammed and seperated from nature.

rofl

humans are just a part of nature.
there is no proof of lack of conscience or lack of consciousness in nature.

when we clean a counter we kill other life forms.
where is your conscience there?
when we have to fart in a room full of people ... we do.
so does the earth ... just that stink may be a volcano.

why do people think we are not part of nature? we were born into nature, just like every other living thing on this planet. the only difference is we have the ability to reason things out, where most other animals act on impulses and instinct. nature is more brutal, but it also more fair, because there is no prejudice with it. young, old sick, healthy, color or species has no bearing on it. nature is the ultimate fairness, and the most brutal at the same time.

YES..we are ALL a part of nature, we are all one..we move in, through and out of cycles with nature. a womans 28 day cycle as the moon for instance...many others.
Hell, the only time I feel 'normal' is when I'm hiking and climbing around in nature.
The difference is most don't understand our nature connection, 'we' in general are not good stewards to the that which sustains us.
Animals, plants all have their instinctual way of being..'man' however has knocked nature off course with his behaviors..man made disasters.
Hence.. an oil flow from the belly of the planet that can't be stopped..man is much more selfish and brutal!

Its nature VS nurture the predisposition of personality, informational reception and environment of life combined to make individuals range from gentle to aggressive......childlike to adultlike......its an internalization of informational processing of the enviornment and surroundings.......a dolphin protects and fights off predators animals save their human pets all the time......brutality in Nature yes......but love, caring, and prtectiveness too.
